You don't need that. In fact I think D & B even charges you to have a rating, and to obtain one your going to spend several thousand in accounting fees for audited financial statements, from a reputable CPA. D&B numbers are for larger corporations.
Can I get MC number if I do not own any truck ?

You don't need a D & B number to apply for authority. If you want a Duns number you need to call them. I don't recall them charging anything for their number. Dun and Bradstreet is a credit reporting agency for companies. It is similar to the consumer credit agencies, such as Equifax or Experion. D & B also offers other business services. You can register with them if you wish. You can also give them your business credit information, such as your bank and other creditors. You can give them as much or as little as you wish. I don't like the idea of anyone having access to my business or personal credit information. Some people will provide them with financial statements and profit and loss. It has been a number of years since I have spoken with them. They do charge for some services. Providing information to them is voluntary.
Some brokers and shippers do prefer carriers to be established in business for at least 6-12 months before doing business with them. Just having an older MC number won't be of much benefit unless the company has been operating without any problems. If you were to purchase an older number that hasn't been active, it would be the same as a new number that was just issued. -

I can see why the OP asked this. There’s no trucks out there. Seriously no joke, trucks that cost $30-&40K a few years ago are $80-$90K. They’re selling trucks with over 500,000 miles on them for $80,000 plus now. Three years ago you could buy a new Cascadia for about $110,000 if you didn’t get a condo model. It’s in sane what’s going on.
even trucking companies are starting to panic due to the shortage of trucks. Most trucking companies roll their fleets over every couple years they rotate trucks in and out. And they’re not able to do that right now. Forget the driver shortage, there’s going to be a truck shortage -
One way I know some people do it is they go to the junkyard and get a vin number from a truck that’s never going to get back on the road.
Not saying this is legal just saying that’s how some do it. -
There........fixed it! -
