As I hit the hay in Laredo TX keep in mind my friend this is a very lonely business and kiss your social life goodbye .
The last few weeks haven't been stellar so I'll be working this weekend while my non trucking friends are playing ..keep that in mind .

Thanks Exrayman4000! I appreciate the reply and link provided. I have been listening to Kenny Long's podcast called "Trucking with Authority". He talks all the time about the paperwork, safety, and FMCSA regulations. After reading several of the comments posted here, I plan on taking things nice and slow. Company driver for 6 months to a year, owner operator leased onto a company one to three years, and eventually driving with my own authority. As MRED said in one of his earlier comments, don't put the cart before the horse! Thanks again for the advice!

Why don't you work on moving to the FRONT of the Plane?
Or maybe look at getting a power unit and leasing with a company

I agree with you. OP does appear to have a good head on his shoulders. And I'm rooting for him and like I said in an earlier post, wish him the best of luck. I just wanted to toss in a little comment or two to help him understand a bit better what he's getting into. This industry isn't all bad, but it's not all good either. And it certainly isn't for everyone. I'd just caution him to be optimistically realistic, and don't get a big financial stake invested before even knowing if he likes it.

    Well...

it's sort of like agreeing to marry someone that you've never corresponded with, never met in person, and never heard of... image.jpeg ...

...and no one ever hears from you again.

Hahaha I asked because I'm going that route. I have a good friend that has been doing it for 8 years and he is going to guide me through the murky waters

Can I get my authority without a truck of my own ? I drive hotshot for a company and I’m wanting to get my authority. Me and my wife planned on running our business by leasing on trucks under our authority . Advice ???

You can get authority with just a truck leased to you, I forget the process or exactly how it works, but have known a couple that did just that.
Infact some fairly big companies do not have any company trucks.
