I have three weeks of school behind me and many years of learning in front of me. I do apprieciate the help though.
Can I get some honest mileage from some current drivers?

You will be evaluated when you hire on by the dispatch team. So, how you run will depend a lot on you. Can you follow directions ? Dispatchers don't like crybabies/complainers/drivers who constantly call in with dumb ?'s etc. If you can make decisions, get the job done in a timely manner, and not get tickets. accidents, complaints etc, dispatch will take notice and you, my friend, will get some good miles and good paychecks. On the other hand, if you complain or are late with loads or just can't seem to cut the mustard out there, they will also notice and you will be punished in an in-direct way. Did you watch Ice road truckers the first season ? Rick Yemm constantly complained and Hugh, his boss, sent him packing. And down in India, he still complained about EVERYTHING.
JustSonny Thanks this. -
I spent the last fifteen years as a police officer. I was a training officer and traffic homicide investigator. I know all too well about crybabies and complainers. I have also learned to always do everything I can to say on my dispatchers good side. I know that I have a lot to learn as I am taking on this new career, but I am excited about the opportunity. I plan to do as I'm asked and keep my mouth shut. My goal is to get my loads delivered safely and on time and then ask nicely for another. I know I will miss my family, but I know going in that I will have to pay my dues as I did as a cop. Wish me luck.

Am I right in thinking that Transam has better equipment than Roehl?
-
Thanks guys for all the help> I am going to go with Roehl, I am starting to question the financal stability of Transam. I also agree with THE ROOKIE, I really haven't heard or read anything bad about Roehl. Thanks again for all the useful info.

Log it like you drive it.
The extra money earned will only go to pay false log fines.
I used to juice the logs, no more..not worth it.
You've got the right idea asking for opinions on what company is better.
But you'll find out for sure once you've started. -
TransAm has a lot nicer equipment than Roehl does. If you go to TransAm. You will more than likely get a KW T-660. When I was with them, they had KW T-600, Freightliner Classics and Columbia's.Now I think they mainly have T-660. I believe the majority of them have APU's on them. I have never seen a generator on a Roehl truck before but I dont see that many either.
When I was with TA, it wasnt nothing to get 3500+ miles a week with them, although; that was 4 or 5 years ago also.
