I'm 27 years old and work at pizza hut making $8 hour. I've been working here since 2011 and I hate the job and just want to leave. I don't even want to put my 2 weeks notice in. Just get out and leave. Can I get into a trucking school like swift without putting my 2 weeks notice in? Will the trucking company look down on that action?
Can I just leave my job without 2 weeks notice to go into trucking?

To get a job... yes it could look bad if they call for a references or work history

two weeks notice is a courtesy thing, not required. Leaving abruptly might get them to say you are not re-hirable. It is not like you are the manager, who is going to take time to replace.
I had no problems quitting a fast food job, without notice, and being hired as a truck driver. -
Who cares it's $8 a hour. Find new job quit that soon as someone accepts you.

Pizza Hut will notice you left? Brother, it's a minimum wage job! You leave, they'll just call the next poor bugger and offer him the position!
Don't bother with a two week notice. Pizza Hut is a J O B, not a profession or career. Know what J O B stands for? Just Over Broke.drvrtech77, G.Anthony, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes. You can quit without notice. For your sake, talk to the recruiter, do your tests and dot physical, and wait until they tell you what day to get on the greyhound. Money gets awful tight during school and training, unless you have savings built up and no other bills. Hubby quit his job as soon as he knew he would be leaving for swift, they never asked any questions.

Just give your two weeks , they may just release you , out of fear you may decline in performance or steal pepperonis. If school comes up sooner call in sick for the remainder . Eight years and no vacation ?

What if you give two weeks notice, and they accept it right there on the spot? Now you don't get those last two paychecks you might have counted on.... It really depends on the place, if they deserve a two weeks notice or not. Some do, some don't. You don't want to leave people hanging or burn bridges.
A pizza place has a file drawer with a stack of applications simply needing a call back and an apron. A mega trucking company just has to put the next warm body behind the steering wheel.
I gave a two weeks notice when my first OTR truck job hired me. I liked my old warehouse job, and they told me on my way out I was welcome back anytime. When I quit my first year OTR trucking job they got a notice their truck was on their terminal lot, cleaned out, and I didn't even say bye to that poor excuse for a dispatcher. I just checked out with the Safety Department. Made sure all I's and T's were in order, and left without looking back. -
I have never given notice in all my years working and it has not affected me at all. Just quit and be done with it.
G.Anthony and Starboyjim Thank this.
