Alot of these guys with no experience come here and shoot their mouths off.

those aren't two consecutive weeks. The second one is the last decent one I got, just before the new year. My biggest check since the first of the year year has was about $600 after deductions. Most of them have been in the $300-400 range. The point I'm making is things have gotten bad. they are the worst I've seen them in 12 years. And just about everyone I talk to is telling me the same thing. Over half the places I was going to to pick up and deliver last year are vacant buildings today. They had people working in them, and a lot of those laid off people are now sitting in their living room right now, see the ads from the truck driving schools that tell them they have all the answers. Not hardly. if the people in the factories and the warehouses aren't working, it ain't long before we aren't working either. And in our business, we don't get laid off. No, we sit in a truck and wait sometimes 48 hours before we can find loads to get us moving again. the carriers don't lay you off, they starve you out until you cry uncle and quit.Last edited: Mar 6, 2010

I understand that some people are unhappy with the direction trucking has gone vs the way it was years ago but just about every job has gone there. I know a lot of guys that are truckers and no its no like it was back when the money was great but it is still better than what some people are making. Im sure a newbie that really puts effort in this business can make a decent living if they manage their money. I have heard some bad stories but they were mostly from whining drivers that want everything handed to them on a silver platter. It seems to be a good job in this terrible economy.

MrMustard, thank you for that insightful post.
The truth hurts, alot of folks on this site don't want to admit it.
Without people making/building/producing things, there is nothing for us truckers to haul.
Workers who aren't making money aren't spending money.
The guy at Wal-Mart earning 8 bucks an hour pushing carts around and no health insurance....is he buying that 30k car rolling of the assembly line?
Even reefer freight gets short as folks cut back on eating out, cutting down portions, etc.
We need to put people back to work in this country, we need to rebuild our manufacturing base.
Only then will the glory days of trucking return.
When O/O can earn a decent return for their investment in equipment.
Company drivers can bring home a decent check to send home to their families in return for staying out on the road for so long.MrMustard Thanks this. -
I was over-doing the whole "whining" thing there. Trying to be a smart-###, a little.
But it does suck, however. -
Hey Paddington ok we get your anoyance with the situation, as well mr. mustard. So how about saying SOMTHING that you like about it, just try a post thats positive for once. Most of us don't believe it's as bad as your saying, yes thats right we think it might be you guys but continually saying it won't make us be sad or cry okay?

I made a bit more than this on Thursday running some ethanol out of Albany.
