Hey , are you at the Love's ? I went by there couple of hours ago . I usually stop there for fuel but the price didn't seem that low so I continued on . I'm at the Pilot on the west side exit 28 on I-71 .
I'll be going into Canada tomorrow . -
I made over 45K my first year and around 6K more this year. I was lucky to start with a company that usually requires 1 year of experience. Regular dry box OTR will not get you that kind of money. You will need to specialize.

NOT MUCH, AND IT IS HARD HARD HARD LIFESTYLE, ESPECIALLY FOR A COUPLE AND ON THE MARRIAGE, AND VERY HARD ON MOST WOMEN.

For now, I am heading up to Gary IN today to get closer to the receiver in IL. Will probably hang out at the Pilot there today.

I made 42k in my first year, three years ago. I didn't work especially hard, though I did stay out on the road longer than most. I never had to fudge my logbook or drive in any conditions I felt were unsafe (either because I was too tired or the weather was nasty). This was hauling dry van freight.
If you start with any of the big "CDL mill" companies you likely will not see this much money your first year. They are designed to train you, get you in and chew you out in time for the next winner to take your seat. Scrutinize trucking message board sites for a few months until you know the names of 20-30 of the biggest carriers then avoid them like the plague.
Good luck,

YEAH RIGHT! I sent out over 70 apps (both on line & in person to local places, & made 70 follow up calls, & got 2 (yep 2 two 1+1) offers. 1 from Werner, & 1 from Swift. In this economy, the beginner almost HAS to go with one of the big carriers to get in, then with experience swap to a smaller company. I remember october seeing jobs on CL only wanting 3 months exp. now I cant find one that wants less than 1 yr, & most are advertisng 2 or 3. So, either need to know someone if you want go to a local company or go with a big company otr & take your lumps untill you have experience.

In light of what your seeing in the industry,...You still want to continue on??

Thank you everyone for your time and input.
I've been doing the same type of work for 20 years and just feel I would like a career change. I was laid off in Nov and always thought that the trucking industry was stable. I don't have a house, kids or large bills so thought if I'm on the road 29 of 30 days I don't mind.
My step father and mother was an OTR team for CFI for over 8 years and she says she loved it. -
If you want to go with a good company Crete looks good. A former student that went to my school made 42K his first year. He stayed out a lot. Has good equipment. It broke my heart when they denied me. My work history got me.
