You know, I hear this "McDonalds" comparison over and over. It just doesn't seem true. For example, if I work 40 hrs a week, I'd have to be paided $10/hr to gross 20K, even less net. I don't think McDonalds is paying $10/hr most places, but maybe I'm wrong here.
But I agree, a person would be better off at McDonalds: You'd be home everyday, and actually work less.
Can I make 40-45K 1st yr OTR?

Just remember McDonalds is still part time, you wont take home $384 a week. thats a STARTING figure you will make more, you will NOT make more at McDonalds do what you want though, if you're happy to flip burgers and make nothing a week, go for it

Just curious, do you get to take home the "unused" burgers and such? Can you take lunch at KFC? Do you have to sign a "No Disclosure" agreement regarding the Secret Sauce?
Things you get in trucking that you don't get at Mickey D's:
Free Housing, admittedly small, with free lights, heat and A/C wherever you go.
Free Entertainment...... "I'm watching the World Thru My Windshield". Beats the heck outa soaps.
Free Language Training. Everything from Dispatcher English to Good Ol' Boy to Me no Speakee English. -

That was funny. or getting directions from a guy with heavy NY accent...lol.. I can do the good ole boy accent.. but NY ..I'm like turn where??? -
Free entertainment? Yeah watching the rookies and the tired "hard runners" trying to get in a hole can be very entertaining for sure.
Language? Ch. 19 is better than Rosetta Stone by far! Trucking is great, it's the politics that suck and that ain't getting better any time soon. -
Yeah thats what i hear, and by the way i think their hiring in southern Cal so don't let the door hit you in the ##### on the way outBusDriver Thanks this. -
Great, well, then go home get a job driving a dump truck or a limo and work the management program at McDonalds at night, proplem for you solved. Or are you another sad driver who think this industry sucks but all you do is complain about no money because you've managed to piss everyone you work for off? If you think McDonalds is a better job and opp. then SEE YA, and let the rest of us work without listening to all the constant whining..........Look we (newbies) know that when we start it's going to be at a lower income rate, thats the way it works! With more experience YOU GET PAID MORE, BETTER JOBS AVAIL. ect..
We've become a freakin country of whiners and complainers! Why don't all the complainers either do something to fix the problem or move to another country and see how freakin lucky we really are! Cmon show some grit and get up and fix the problem or stop driving! I want to drive, and i'm not the only one. I'ts like you've been invited to dinner (the company you drive for) and all you doing is complaining about the meal that their offering (what their paying). No ones forcing you guys to eat.
And this attitude is what the new generation is learning, this sense of entitlement? take responsibility for your own decisions and make the necessary changes in YOUR LIFE!kaiwren986 Thanks this. -
Good Luck, Let us know in 6 months how things are !!!!!!

foodmojo,
It is just so hard, man. I mean, it really sucks and people are really mean. It used to be so much easier, but now its not like that. I just don't understand why it is so much harder. Its just like, you know, not easy. Oh, and the companies all suck, so do the shippers, and they're not fair or anything like that. I think of myself as a fair person, so I know when something's not fair, and believe me, this is not fair!
I can't believe you think people on this board are whining!jtrnr1951 and Paddington Thank this.
