can i put water in my def tank?

    I was wondering if I could toss a bottle of water in my def tank I'm kinda in a emergency situation here please someone help!

    Ok then I'm screwed lol I'm on long island now and the only fuelstop for me is in columbia nj and I don't know if I can make it back I was on orange when I pulled in now I just started flashing read sitting in the dock do you know how many miles ill get before I'm dead in the water should I try to make it or just call breakdown now?

    Just friendly advice, next time make sure you have plenty of fuel and DEF, before going into that area. Chalk this up to a learning experience and something you won't forget.

    buyit somewhere before then. Just because it's L.I. doesn't mean noone has it. Get a reciept and hopefully your employer will reimburse you. Experience costs. Whether a jug of that stuff or a lot of hours lost waiting to get someone to bring you a jug.
    Never wait til you're in danger of running out of any item you use before you get more.

    Where on long island?...gabrielli has a kw dealership out there off 495 right off the highway. I'm sure there are other dealers as well. Plus auto parts stores

    The engine won't shut down if you run out. Probably only run about 55 or so though. Next time, buy a 2.5 gallon jug and put it in your side box. For emergencies like this.
