DEF is mostly water, about 2/3.
I've though about that solution myself, when my engine derated when I was very low once.
Throw in a gallon or two of water to fool the system, so I could get another 100 miles to my next fuel stop with pump DEF.
I've been that low before, but this time I made the mistake of shutting off the engine. At the next restart the computer only let me go about 3 MPH even though I still had at least 3 gallons left. (I've never had to add more than 18 gallons in the 23 gallon tank. I really wish the sensor was more accurate!!!)
Stupid Volvo.
That's when I thought about tossing in a gallon or two of distilled water.
If it had been my own truck I probably would have chanced it. But I drive a company truck.
So I called on-road, and they sent out someone to give me some DEF.
8 gallons, at a total cost of ~$350.
And I really hated imposing that cost to the company.
What's coooon sense?
can i put water in my def tank?

So, If we could find a way to make DEF out of all the truckstop gaiter aid, we could make a fortune!

Ive heard that on some instructional videos for def (diesel exhaust fluid) its emphasized not to use human urine, now I see whyaiwiron Thanks this.

I have did a little searching also and found that the ingredients have to be near medical grade pure, so the information told me. All the urea was synthetic so pretty much kills that idea unless someone wants busted for a phony meth lab.

I will have to assume then that you are agreeing with me......urine does have some urea in it. Blood has some water in it, but that doesn't mean you'd be ok to pump your veins full of water.

Kind of yes and kind of no. This post was to factually reference that urine does have urea in it, which your post implied it does not.
Also, I want to make it clear once again, I would NEVER recommend trying a home-made concoction of urine and water to substitute for DEF. I stated that, hopefully clearly, twice in my original post about this. The 'other ingredients' in such a mixture would be disastrous and probably VERY expensive. I do think it is an interesting observation that DEF is so similar to pee and water mixed together.
