You should do oil patch work or haul UAN all summer. UAN is seasonal and it’s easy work, just delivering fertilizer in a tanker. I’d say something in the farming industry is your best bet. You could probably come back and work for the same company next year.

Fertilizer. It’s non hazmat and it’s busy season is during the summer. Easy work, pull into the plant and get a load and dump it somewhere.

You sir, are the smartest single man in trucking. I gave this advice to some single guys here recently and they looked at me like I was stupid. I lived +20 years in Asia, and if I didn't have such a great wife and two beautiful children I'd be sitting in Angeles City with you sucking down some San Miguel.

For all you single guys thinking of the 6 month potential of this job, read the book "The Long Haul - A Trucker's Tales of Life on the Road" by Finn Murphy. This book will not only give you the answer, but give you some great ideas about how to do it.

    Good luck!

Any tips on finding these jobs? I've got a tank and hazmat endorsement. Do they pay well?

I don’t know how well they pay. I’d assume they pay at least decent. I haul def and we load at the same places.

I’d just call your local tanker companies and ask. Megas don’t do it so it’s gonna be the smaller companies.

Have you considered gravel hauling in North Dakota? Someone in the oilfield forum on here said you can get on unemployment every year when they lay you off. That would be unique I think. You're not going to have a passive income while in Asia after everytime you quit an OTR gig.
Not that you really need one, but it's still better than nothing. Maybe you can help out the locals.
Maybe there are other temporary gigs that would allow you to draw unemployment checks afterwards? Let us know what you find. I'd love to do something like that.

Yes you can do it. However you will within a year or two of doing it start to see what a headache it will have become. The work history aspect is not that serious. People seem to forget there is no rule that says you can't drive a CMV with gaps in your work history. You just have to account for the gaps. Taking 6 month vacations is accounting for that gap. The biggest thing your going to run into is always driving junk trucks and staying at the bottom. Your DAC is going to be covered with quits and at some point the better carriers will not hire you. I suggest you either jump fully in or stay totally out or stay with some temp agencies as has been recommended.
