So just bought a "new" 1/2 ton pickup with low mileage. After looking it over and signing over my soul I realized that there was a gooseneck hitch in the back. Now I'm thinking could I run a gooseneck under a certain weight to make some cash to help pay it off quicker? Is this within DOT regs?
can I run a gooseneck during my 34 hour reset?

Not only is it not legal to work for pay (Has to be on duty), It will also quickly kill that 1/2 ton pickup. They really aren't made for towing more than the (light) family camper a few times a year.

The only thing your gona do quicker is destory the light duty pickup ..pulling a goose neck trailer
You ever wounder way the previous.. owner traded it off with low miles ????

You can’t run it without proper insurance and authority either.

Sounds to me like he's willing to spend a dollar to make a dime .. and ruin a pickup truck trying to do it ..

Are new drivers really this unaware of how the HOS rules work ?
or is this just a troll post ?
I thought the HOS rules were taught in every CDL class ?
although I had to carefully explain to a driver the other day how recap hours work , all he knew was drive till he was out of of hours and do a 34 reset .Jubal Early Times Thanks this. -
EVERY JOB counts against your DOT 70 hour clock. There are no exceptions. If you were a cashier at a farmers market, or you were a cowboy in Montana, once you have a CDL EVERY JOB counts against your 70. DOT guys love to see goosenecks and hotshots at the scale house because many of them are walking DOT violations for one reason or another. All it will take to sink your boat is one drunk sliding into your vehicle and a lawsuit and the lawyers on the other side will know what you had for dinner and every thought you had for the last 20 years (slight exaggeration).
You would need to add the time spent doing this extra work to the hours you spent driving/working with your big truck.
