Not sure if that is DOT allowable or not. I am still stuck in a trainer truck and I am not holding my breath to get a new truck as my FM keeps promising me one soon for the past four months. My space is very limited and the spill kit is using up a lot of storage. Can I just strap it to my catwalk or will the government find a reason to ticket me for that? If it is against the rules I will not do it.
Can I strap my spillkit on catwalk with bungie cords?

Just in case, I would go to Wally-World and buy some cheap cargo straps. They're no better but it looks like you've tried your best to impress truck inspectors.
-
You talking about a diesel fuel spill kit ? Whatever kind it is, how is it "packaged" ? Technically/legally, nothing can be bungee corded to any part of a truck/trailer.
-
Anything you "attach" to the truck, needs to be attached by a device with a WLL rating......rubber snubbers don't work.....legally that is.

Otrliveload Thanks this.

Bungie cords are not a legal tie down device. So it is illegal. Go to Wally World and get yourself a little 1 inch ratchet strap.. Then it is legal.

Well...this thread is interesting.
I have always used a bungie cord to secure my glad hands to my cat walk when I am bob tailing.
I know that they cant be 'free' and just laying there but thought that was good enough..
Maybe I need to get a 1" ratchet strap at WW now?? -
some states in the hunt to come up with violations are enforcing that bungy cords do not have a load rating, so cannot secure any kind of load. So another name for them, tarp strap, is about all you can do with them.

I use bungies to keep my wet line off of my cat walk, and never had any problem. I think it is more so for things that can come up off the catwalk, and hit someone. -
I have a short air hose bungee corded down to the deck plate and the long one on the hose rack. I have gone through several level 2 DOT checks with no problems but that is a grey area and could depend on the mood of the inspector. Something heavy like a spill kit should be held down with ye olde ratchet strap to be on the safe side. I used to put extra hoses on the trailer fenders with a bunch of bungee cords but was leery of crossing scales like that.
