That's why I'm asking in the heavy duty mechanic forum if over torquing by 100 ft/lbs is an issue or not. Are you able to answer that question or are you just here to criticize?
Can I torque my wheels with an impact?

All I asked was if you did not see an issue with 100lbs over-torque.
Jeez, drink a beer or three. -
What type of impact are you referring too ? Air, Battery, 1/2 or 3/4 drive ?
JoeyJunk Thanks this. -
The answer to your post is No. You can not torque anything with an impact.
A torque wrench is calibrated to measure the torque applied to a fastener and to stop turning at a given value.
Just because an impact is rated for a certain torque does not mean you achieved or exceeded the torque applied to the fastener. Most pneumatic impact wrenches do not deliver full ratings as advertised, but maybe 1/2 if you’re lucky. Battery power is even less.
Your best wheel attachment method should be to install with an impact that you know does not achieve the final torque on initial tightening and then final torque with a calibrated torque wrench. The fastener should turn on final torque.Last edited: May 9, 2023
