Can I use a "J1708 to RS-232 interface" with my DD15?

I bought a used DDDL interface which seems to be a genuine Detroit Diesel #23512415. It came with DDDL on a CD but did not come with the exact cables I need.
But my 2011 Freightliner Cascadia with DD15 uses a newer connector to my understanding. Can I use this interface anyway, assuming I connect the right pins? Does my ECU step down to J1708 communication if it discovers that is what the interface is talking? Or do I need a totally different interface?
