Kind of hard to follow the FMCSA list, but you can see what is and isn’t exempt as far as potatoes are concerned. Bagged potatoes that haven’t been cooked appear to be exempt.

Make sure you stop before you exit the other end of your exemption if you haven’t been off duty for 10 hours yet, that way you don’t end up starting your clock again and end up having to take a full 10 a few hours down the road. Stop early and leave with a fresh 11 sooner.

This is going to be a state by state thing, also a lot of time it needs to be tagged as farm and “for the benifit of the farm” to qualify

Not true. It’s a federal exemption that’s part of the MAP21 bill. Here’s the list of what is and isn’t exempt.

again, this could be misleading. DO NOT LOG “PC”. You can log “off duty” or “off duty driving” with the AG exempt notation. On an ELD, this is sometimes referred to as logging on the PC line, but do NOT do that without making the ag exempt notations required. It is NOT a PC move.
-
Fmcsa understands it is not a pc move but allow logged as pc on elogs only with the comment. This is to facilitate IFTA tracking through elog. It is not falsification on elogs as long as you comment. This is per fmcsa. Similarly done for Covid 19 loads. I wouldn’t tell people not to do it when the fmcsa tells us precisely we can, in writing! paper logs would not be appropriate here.be aware many eld do not have off duty driving without the pc with the title. That is why fmcsa allows it logged with the comment included.Last edited: May 16, 2022

Like the other 'Air Mile' execptions, this is a radius.
Stick a pin in your starting point and measure out 172 miles and draw a circle.
As long as you stay inside that circle you are good and can acually drive more than 150 miles.
You can 'ping pong' all day around inside the circle and be under the exemption.Accidental Trucker Thanks this. -
Can you use split hours with ag exempt?
-
Not sure why you’d want to. Ideally you would have about 6 hours of off duty driving (180 or so miles to and from pickup) plus all the time spent loading, scaling, etc.
Using round numbers for example, lets say you start your log with a pretrip and some driving. You reach the edge of your radius and then drive 3 hours to your pickup. You spend 2 hours loading, scaling, and getting paperwork. There just happens to be a nice place to park 3 hours up the road from where you loaded. Your off duty time is at 8 hours. You pull in and grab a nap for two hours and then start your log again with a fresh 11 and 14.Accidental Trucker Thanks this. -
Yes you can. Ag exempt is the same as off duty.

I see fresh "WHALE" meat is on the exempt list. Now where would anyone be hauling WHALE meat?????

alaska?

Actually you could look at the beginning of the veggie section is where bagged veggies are said to be exempt. Bagged and sacked I think means the same thing.
You can see in the table this - Vegetables, Bagged >>> Exempt.
I don't think the potatoes are dipped for preservation, one reason why I was asking where it was going.
