I currently have my CDL license with Alaska with all my endorsements. I'm looking to pick up work in California, I was wanting to know if I could still keep my Alaska CDL license and my residency in Alaska and be hired on to work in California for a while or will I need to convert my CDL to a California one? Also could anyone tell me will I have to redo all the test and endorsementstest for California CDL?

In my experience local jobs in CA require you to change your residency to CA become of the ####### laws.

If you live in California, or any other state, you just have a CDL from that state.

If you maintain a residence in Alaska, I don't see why you'd have to change. If you don't have a residence in Alaska and you've essentially moved to California (whether temporary or permanent), then you'd have to change your license over.

You can / could.....but there are several factors.
The moment you change your USPS address,, everything changes.
Get an UPS Store private address, it is a Suite ##. (Not the USPS.)
If you decide to swap Licenses all you do is pay for it and take the Vision Test. Only then get the new USPS address. Beware of the "Ratpac" program. (Google it).
Also beware of AK resident, Oil profit share program. AK is resilient and keeping watch over it every year. Also remember that any document generated with your AK License, (tickets, DOT inspections and other) will bring a Flag to your address. There is more.........

If you have a main residence in Alaska, you do not need to change your license.
Many people base a residence or business in a state with favorable tax laws and work elsewhere.

Not to complicate things for you but the purpose of the cdl being uniformed in all states is to allow this to situation to happen. I have drivers who live all over the country and they work for my authority or part of the lease package with a carrier, not one of them had to change their license to another state,

A few years back I was going to go Texas to work and keep my residency here but I was told that I needed to change my license to a Texas license in order to work by some stupid Texas law, I pretty much told them if they wanted that, then I expect them to buy me a house because it ain't happening.

Why would you want to change your residence from Alaska? You would lose your benefits.

You can drive in ca (as in otr etc) but you will not be able to work for a ca based company whether you are doing local, regional or otr.
