Most companies will try and take it out of your check. Even if they had the driver sign an authorization to do so either in advance or at the time of the deduction. You can get it back. I would get it back especially if I was leaving. If I wasn't leaving, I would go talk to someone above your dispatcher, hopefully the Controller or CFO. The know it's not legal. It's just a deterrent to minimize these types of expenses caused by poor judgement. (sorry, it is your fault no matter how you look at it. You had complete and total control of the equipment. Unless of curse they specifically told you to park there?)

File a complaint at your local wage and hour division. You will get the money back. But, it will take some time. The company will receive a letter from the state and be given a period of time to respond. Some companies will send the money right away. Some will delay as long as possible. The wage and hour will charge them interest. Stay vigilant and watch the mail for any letters requesting more information from you.

Hopefully you mortgage is due on the 1st? Usually, they have a 15 day grace. Interest on mortgages are paid in arrears. So as long as you make the payment before any late fees are assessed, you'll be fine. You'll just have to double down in the future to make the payment on time while starting a new job.

I'm not stressing the tow bill just trying to find out if they could have broke it down. Yeah I did park it in my yard that's my fault I'm not saying it ain't but why make me pay a $400 tow bi when they couldn't give me a decent #### truck that wouldn't be breaking down every other day

And when the alternator went out THE COMPANY told me to go home which was at 3am and I had to find a way to get home. They never offered a hotel room or for me to come to the yard to get another truck.

Yep,i agree they shouldnt take MONEY,but if they had to it shud of been lil bit by lil bit,but you are RESPONSIBLE for where you leave the TRUCK unless they SPECIFY otherwise,

normally they make you park them at the COMPANY TERMINAL, DROP YARD or NEAREST TRUCKSTOP close to HOME during your RESET, contact the Labor board, explain you didnt sign anything,or did you? Saying you would incur any Accidental charges for DRIVER MISHAPS,Next time you sign on with a new company, make sure you ask them about their POLICY,sounds like owner is being a CHEEP-O-son-of-GUN And getting over on you

I ask how did the truck slide?was it on a angle?Hill,Levee, did it loose air pressure for the brakes to make disengage?

    Best of luck to you

Back in the 80's I would drive the truck home and park it. After 1st starting this and it had rained a bit I saw that if we got much rain at once this would not be good. So I got a friend to bring me about 5 yards of pea gravel. I spread it out by hand leaving it about 4 to 5 inches deep and come up a bit short so he brought me 2 more yards. That came out good, it was a bit wet at that time and I packed it down somewhat with the truck. And for about 3 years I parked the truck in that spot and never had a problem. And during that time we had two very rainy events where it rained 10 to 12 inches in about a twelve hour period. Both times there were bridges and the approach to bridges that got washed out along with flooding problems all around us. Yet I had no trouble parking the truck at my house, I did not even rut up my parking spot.

I did not ask my boss to pay for the pea gravel, I figured that was my expense being as I did not have the expense of driving back and forth to work. And if the truck had gotten stuck in my yard I would never have asked my boss to pay the tow charge. I figure the pea gravel I put down would have been much cheaper than a wrecker call.

You do have to plan ahead them do what needs to be done before it happens, especially when your able to drive the truck home saving the expense of driving back and forth to work.

    Weird thread, Weird OP.

Suck up the responsibility parking company equipment on your terms. Crap happens, It really does, But it's in your possesion and should eat the tow bill. On the flip side if it gets stolen, Way off my base to say a driver eats the cost of units/ product. That is absurd to eat upwards of $1 million. Each situation is different.

Tow bill eat it. I wouldn't even of notified employer. Your mess,Your Tow bill. Eat the $400 tow bill and stop complaining.

Even you screwed up babysitting the company equipment for free, now your'e $400 in the hole :biggrin_2559:
Trucking is funny and OP's aren't always truthful.
