Probably not... most companies won't even look at credit. The only thing they care about is your driving, criminal background, and work history.
-
Many companies will use a credit report to try to gauge the risk of a driver stealing from them. The thinking is that if someone is deep in debt they may be very desperate to find a quick way out.
It is best to be honest on your application and know that they will ask you to sign a form to allow them to do a credit check, They may or may not do a credit check, BUT you will have to sign the form.. -
I would say if you were going to be hauling anything of seriously high value or security they may. Companies in all kinds of fields do this because they want to know what kind of people they are entrusting with these kind of things. High debt may indicate a not so responsible individual more likely to commit a crime in order to reduce their debt. Not saying you would but many professions will not hire someone with bad credit, not sure about the trucking industry as a whole but there must be some out there that do credit checks...
-
For the most part, no. BUT, I agree with some of the other posters that is CAN depending. More and more companies ARE checking people's credit record for a fact. Heck, saw it on the news just the other day as a matter of fact. But, with trucking, you should probably be fine. Let's just say, if I had a company I would check employees backgrounds, credit, and such just to see what type of person he/she is...wouldn't hurt to check anyway.
-
I do know that there was a form to allow a credit check in my FMCSA "compliance pack" that I had to sign so I could authorize myself to run a credit check on myself when I set up my authority....

In my past life as a Security Contractor it was the #1 reason most people who met the qualifications were turned away.........The job did require us to have security clearances.....or some at a minimum needed a MRPT (Public Trust)....I would think that it could definately play a part if you were trying to haul Hazmat or Govmt contracts(depending on the company and the requirements put on them by the Govmt)..........They didn't look as hard at how deep you were in debt as to how you paid or if you had a bankruptcy..................I also know that insurance companies are also looking at your credit worthiness (among other things) to set your rates.........

well i do have a clear background and no tickets or accidents. for my work history Ive been mostly self employed.
But sadly like some other Americans Ive fallen into the credit card trap.
Its kinda sad it so easy to get debt but almost impossible to get out without getting a better job or second job.

no problem at all.
as Im still very young im sort of just learning all these things.
Edit:wish they had some classes back high school about credit cards and other finance stuff
you would of thought I would of learned from my mother and father but the problems about being slef employed is if you get you pay cut theres not much you can do about. right now i can meet all my bills. Its just i feel its time to get out of debt and for me to try to stay. I would like to buy a house someday. At least i havent been late on anything and i keep on paying on them.
the thing amazes me is that it wasnt until my dad was 40s when he got his first new Van a 1994 plymouth voyager which is still kicking around town lol
I got my first new car 21 a 2008 hyundai accent but then again im living with my mother rent free since my father left in 2001 "I still see him and talk to him. hes help get my start in slef employment so i dont hold anything against him." I will probably still tech live with my mother but i will doing alot of OTR.
Edit number2:Also i ve applyied to
warner trucking
Schneider National
trans am trucking
