Can my DAC report be damaged if I quit during my training phase?

I decided to take on a hazmat chemical tanker job as my first trucking job (why oh why did I do that?!). I went to orientation for a large company with a hazmat chemical tanker division for one week which was last week. I officially started my several weeks of training this week. I should have went with my gut feeling last week but I had to know if this would be a good fit for me. Turns out it's NOT. I hate the surge in the tanks. I hate the hazmat rubber suits & PPE. It's incredibly uncomfortable to wear standing in the hot sun waiting for the tank to load/unload. I'm local / "same day" regional and I'm still only getting 5 hrs of sleep due to the extremely long hours.

I didn't sign any contracts. They paid for orientation and for training so I should get a couple of paychecks in a couple of weeks. The driving was easy. My backing needs work.

My next plan is to do OTR dry van (with more training on my backing) or maybe a class B job.

It won't be. Future employers will ask why you quit. Tell the truth.

What company is this ? What's the pay ?

Won't you take a big drop in weekly pay going OTR with a dry van company? What you're doing now is heaven compared to dealing with grocery warehouses.

What Chinatown said. I would try to tough it out. I was always afraid of pulling tanks cause of the surge. But after driving them and going back to pulling a box, I miss the surge smacking me in the back. It becomes second nature after awhile. Still catch myself leaning forward all the time waiting for that forward surge to hit.

Chinatown, I'll probably give it to the end of the week. If I still hate it then I'm going to quit.

Why don't you try dry bulk; good pay and no surge. Food grade tanker is also good; no PPE, no hazmat.

Thanks for the suggestion. Any companies in mind that would train a newbie like me. Tanker driving isn't so bad even the surge. The surge does take some getting use to when backing. I'm to rough on the throttle sometimes.I just hate the chemical HAZMAT PPE portion of it.

Hey, TruckDuo, go find your own job or PM him. Geesh!! As a first job in trucking a tanker job is NOT a good idea, no matter the pay. Or bulk. Bulk usually goes by weight so you're as heavy as possible. Every turn, every stop, can test your skill. Go with your gut. Tanker surge goes both ways. You can slam into the car behind you if you stop too fast as the surge goes to the front of the tank and then races to the back. You have no control how close someone pulls up behind you. You're not ready and that's okay.

I run unbaffled Haz and Haz in vans. I like it a lot, especially the pay. Some of the places we go look like you're on a different planet. No lights allowed. No headlights, turn signals, nothing 'extra' that might be a source of ignition. The money's good. Did I mention that?

If the company is any good, they'll understand. Just tell them you're not ready. You're doing both yourself and the company a favor. Tell them you want to give notice NOW and you'd like to quit ASAP, by Friday next (a week and change) or earlier. You could even ask if they know any other good jobs open. They might. They should appreciate your honesty and maybe give you a recommendation. Maybe they have some other work for you. They must've liked you or wouldn't have hired you.

A 'good' Class B job will probably pay better than mega OTR van and get you home every night. Lots of options. Or LTL. Again, home every night. You're right not to get in over your head. Time and experience will cure your inexperience. It just takes time. You'll be fine. Don't stay with a job you hate.

Like everyone said don't just walk off and quit. if u walk off and quit they will put on yo dac u abandoned a trk even though u are training. I no for fact they will do it I got sick really bad and my trainer told me he had 2 call company 1st just 2 get permission 2 call ambulance 4 me if he had not done it that way I would have been charged 4 abandoning a trk even though I was very sick. So make sure u do it the right way when u quit. And it want be difficult 2 find another company start calling while u are with that company so when u get off that trk u will be starting the next company asap. Most companies pay '1-.3 extra just 4 having haz endorsement
