Take your boss to small claims court for the cost of the mudflaps.

although that can be of some use, the boss will then find MORE ways to harass him. then if he (the o/p) tries to get even with his boss, he very well may be the one charged with damages or whatever the boss wishes to hit him with. best to not take the boss to court, and no, no labor board will step in, they ONLY STEP IN when it is involving pay, not much of anything else.

mud flaps are cheap. i say buy at the very least one, and keep it in the truck, and make a repair if one ever gets ripped off in some way.

if the o/p signed ANY piece of paper (without reading it) that pertains to paying for damages "up to" a certain dollar amount, then he is screwed.

for the price of a mudflap, i have never seen ANY boss/company make an employee pay for them. HOWEVER, if ONE particular driver is CONSTANTLY having mudflap issues, then that employee is the problem. in all my years, driving all sorts of trucks, with all sorts of mud flap brackets, i was responsible for tearing one off if i backed over it. and i can assure you, i have broken a flap or two in my years. but not at the rate the o/p seems to be doing. and I NEVER HAD BEEN TOLD I MUST PAY FOR IT!

also at any job i had that personal protection equipment was needed, the company GAVE it to me, for free the FIRST time.

if i were to lose it, it was on me to replace it, as i would have screwed up and lost it. if it got damaged/destroyed, the company GAVE ME a replacement FREELY. as that stuff happens.

it comes down to 2 simple little words..RESPECT, and RESPONSIBILITY

Respect and Responsibility of company's property, and equipment.

employers/companies KNOW things get damaged/destroyed, once in awhile. but on a regular basis, by the SAME worker, spells LACK of RESPECT or RESPONSIBILITY that worker has.

No, he'd complain that they took the ticket and didn't reimburse him for it when he went to get his money.

Wow OP.....you seem like the kind of guy who has to PAY for the privilege of having a job.If you don't like how your boss does things then buy your own truck and do whatever you want.

the boss did replace the mudflaps and did not ask me to pay for them. i have heard from other drivers that he does make you pay for them which is where i got that from. im guessing he has had a problem driver that was getting them torn off in the paver constantly. perhaps he realizes that someone else was driving my truck when i was off, and i was not the cause of the damage.

i take extra care of the mudflaps and make sure i hang them up when backing into the paver. i wont be that guy that ruins them.

right now everything has been OK, i drive the truck the way i want to (the safe way), he paid to replace the mudflaps. the biggest problem i have, which has been ongoing and frankly is out of the bosses control is the weather. its been rain, rain, rain, rain and im only getting 25-30 hours per week. im going to likely work for this company for the remainder of the season but if he lays me off i likely wont return and find something else. i cant blame him for the weather but the lack of work this summer hasnt been kind to me.

since i am driving class B does that screw me over for getting a class A or is experience considered experience?

If I had a decent heavy haul company give me a job offer right now, even as second seat or even just securing loads with a future opportunity to haul them, I'd be delivering this load early and telling the bank where they can find my truck.

I suspect pretty much anyone would with the money potential involved. Why didn't you? Because it was a ######## story, is why.
