I don't know about this season though....His last check was made of rubber....It took us 2 months to collect because a farmer in ND wrote him a rubber check....because the government was late on the farmer's check.....
BTW...When you deposit a $10K worth of checks and they bounce to the Moon....The bank has a fit..... -
I don't mind the stings so much...But the itching....... -
Interesting. know a guy that just loaded bees back to NoDak. -
....at $4.19/gal. driving at 5.5MPG equals $0.76 per mile. So just in fuel we are spending $0.76/mi. and that's not counting truck payments, insurance, highway use taxes, tires, maintenance, etc.
After many years of trial and error, having made good business CONTACTS, an O O can do well in this cut throat business, in other words: sometimes it's not what one knows but WHO one knows......

Very interesting discussion. Keep it coming. I am inthe same boat as Sooner. I'm a bit more behind. I am in the process of acquiring my cdl. I recently left my other job with a rainy day fund and am now creating my business plan.
I intend to get a bit of experience or pay my dues before making the full leap. I received a degree and was not satisfied with what I was making. I have faith that if I work hard and get my experience I will be able to one day be an o/o and hopefully own a small fleet.
Somebody did mention to join a carrier, which ones would you guys recommend?
I also got 2 speeding tickets within the last 3 years: both less than 5 miles over the speed limit. Will these tickets affect my chances of getting scooped up by a carrier? Any info is greatly appreciated. -
Another quick note or question. What is the purpose of the broker? He gets a big chunk of the pay and little work like someone mentioned before. Truckers are the real workers here and yet get the #### end of the stick.
Why don't shippers(customers) use some type of verifiable system that would rate carriers as small as they might be. This rating would be used by customers to decid wether to let that certain carrier transport their goods. In other words this system would serve to give peace of mind to the customer that the shipper arrives on time and is responsible. Especially with that new mobile phone all that let's the customer see the goods all along the way. -
