If a Owner Operator drives for a company that has a 21+ age limit, can the O/O hire 18-20 year olds to drive for them?
Since O/O pick what loads they take and where, can they hire someone to just drive intrastate for them?
I'm asking because, by working for an O/O I may get experience with that company, until I can actually drive for that company.

21 isn't just company policy, it's a federal rule for interstate cmv operation.

I would guess it might be very difficult to insure an 18-20 year old as well.

Well some farm kids operate grain trucks, so some of it can be done.

If the O/O drives for a COMPANY that has a 21+ age limit he can't hire anyone under 21 and they would have to be qualified thru the company he is leased onto. If he has his own authority he could probably hire you but insurance issues are going to be your biggest problem. Some insurance companies won't allow it others will charge enough to make it counter productive.
blairandgretchen and FijiIndianBoy Thank this. -
I live in California.
Once again, can O/O hire 18-20 year olds, since they are their own boss? Yes I know insurance is a huge factor, but that still doesn't quite answer my question. -
