What does Kohl's use the doubles for? I know Dillards runs doubles as well, is one for returns and the other filled up with merchandise.
All the Kohl's trailers I've ever seen were 53' and they drop them at the Kohl's store. What's the story on the doubles?
Can some one explain this one?

That drivers just trying to look cool? No need for doubles. Kohls faking the funk. The 2nd trailer is empty.
Mike2633 and Landincoldfire Thank this. -
I know doubles leave the dc for 2 different stores, switch out at each store either empty or returns back to the dc. That's what I've been told by one of the Dillards drivers in Phoenix anyway.

Never driven for either, but I used to work at a Dillard's buying office. It's more efficient if you don't fill a 53' as much as those trailers are hitting the stores. Like carramrod said, they are hitting a couple stores with them. The smallest stores saw a trailer every 19 days or so, even using pups. There are reasons in fashion retail you dont want to be any slower than that, particularly with keeping lower stock levels in stores and using replenishment programs.
Left that job to drive, couldn't handle looking at spreadsheets/databases 8 hours a day. All the young gals worked out and dressed like models, the folks that had been doing it awhile all wore glasses and had hunched backs. -
Actually a coworker of mine used to drive for Kohl's. They run either 53's or doubles, it depends on the store, the store volume, and the space at the store. Some locations, a 53' is not overly practical.

Did Kohls have there own power? Where I live in Ohio I used to always see Interstate Distributor pulling there trailers, but I think Kohl's chops there stuff up, because I've seen Interstate, JB Hunt and even small time companies with older equipment pulling Kohls trailers, so who knows.

Just ran across this thread and know it's an oldie so I apologize. I drive road linehaul for Dillards (Fort Worth Carrier) Basically both pups leave the DC either bound for another DC or two different stores. Typically the shuttle night time drivers haul a set of pups destined for two different stores..drop one loaded pick up empty trailer go to next store repeat..then either bring back both empties to their home dc or go to a vendor for Dillards and swap out. The linehaul road teams like I do mainly do hub to hub runs and occasional store drops if the need is there. Best driving job I've had by far and I've had a few. Everyone is super friendly and the pay is top of the chain. Hope this helps.

Dillards has always been one of my favorite private fleets we've talked a little about them before. Stan over on the auto carrier thread said that Dillards was kind of ahead of there time with fuel millage as far as gearing and stuff goes and had there equipment specked really well for what they do.Dan.S Thanks this.

Yes sir. We (linehaul team) generally get new trucks every 11 to 12 months. Our current t680 has just around 110,000 and they say it's wore out lol But equipment is top notch..some of the trailers are fairly old but one thing i can say is, the mechanics keep them and dollys in tip top shape. If i need something i just ask and it's no questions asked so that part I do like.
