I've hauled frac sand in dry bulk tanks. The box sand came in after I went out.
Straight to the point, if I can avoid breathing sand I'd like to do that.
How common is the box sand? Are there frac sand jobs with no pneumatic dry bulk tanks. I would like just some straight up talk. I don't consider breathing sand is a sign of manliness, OK? You do what you have to do but also don't take unnecessary risks.
TIA
Can somebody explain box sand hauling?

How common? Very in West and East Texas.
Yes you can go to work for Sand Box in West Texas and all they haul is boxed sand.
I would still get and wear a 3M respirator. But that is just me.
The weight compared to a hopper is less, so keep that in mind when figuring your tonnage dollars.CamryXSE and The Crossword Trucker Thank this. -
I have heard box pays less.
What can a company driver hope to get a week these days in the permian running sand box?Dadetrucking305 Thanks this. -
Depends on the weight of the chassis but you should be able to haul as much as grain trailers. We were hauling two on Super-B setup and it was good and easy. Same as a sea container.

It’s more common to see sand hauled in boxes than In pneumatics.Grain hoppers are starting to be used more because they haul more tons. With the boxes spilling over the top I grossed 80k and with the tandem hopper I gross 86k.East Texas And Louisiana doesn’t have as much Frac work and is over trucked.West Texas has the most Frac work of all the shale plays but is also over trucked. The key is to finding smaller shale plays that have work but are paying more because truckers don’t flock to those areas. One can gross anywhere from 6-8k all the way up to 15k all depending on who you are working for and where. That’s a big gap I know but it all depends on various factors on how much you will make but one can easily make over 10k weekly with the right outfit. A good place to find Frac hauling jobs or at least to find out if a company pays is Sand haulers of America on Facebook, and sand haulers of Texas.Several other sand haulers of wherever as well.

Only the top 3 tiers make money hauling sand ...way too many brokers and sub brokers involved . And stay away from The Dick Cheney Mafia. I wish I never did it. It's the most inconsistent Cdl oilfield work available. It's a single stage necessity. Otherwise you sitting in the sandbox graveyard (truck stop). My opinion is legitimate having served in ND,OK,,NE,LA,MT,TX,CO,NM, 15+ yrs and counting.
Good lucksnowman1980 and CamryXSE Thank this. -
Doesn't sound like the strong demand from when I was out there 8 years ago. I just thought it would be good counter cyclical work in a recession.

There is a very good reason that foreigners are the majority of sand box drivers. The pay is garbage.
