Recap is just a list of the hours driven per day(s) prior. It can be two days long or more than 30! Uses of the recap have been well described above.

Um day 9 you would start with a fresh 70. Your grid is wrong.

Um yea, because you would have gotten a 34...i was trying to show why the 34 would save time, technically yes, that driver would have gotten a 34 and had a new set of hours. He could technically start as soon as his 34 was complete, probably on day 8 depending on what time he stopped on day 6. If it was morning on day 6, he could even start the night of day 7.

You picked an extreme example, one for which the reset was intended. Now throw in a couple 300 mile days during the week or a 22 hour break and mix it up a little.

Just wait until the new HOS takes affect. Back in the old days before the 34 took affect, we learned how to use our recap. Then when the new HOS took hold, everyone thought that every week they had to take a 34.

And this whole time I thought a recap was a new layer of tread applied to an old tire!

Well obviosly they you wouldnt need a recap, unless you run slow in week one then run hard in week 2. You get less recap from the 300 mile days. The drive needs to use judgement on weather to take on or not. I find if I have less then 20 hours starting the 2nd week I generally am not gonna make it w/o a 34.

When I seen the thread title I assumed the answer was, something you don't want on your truck in Texas during the summer.

OFF Topic, but retreds are just fine if you get um done by the right company. I've run um on 100+ days and they were fine, although I don't go over 65 mph. Any tire is gonna have trouble going 70+ on a hot day. You also gotta check your pressure and dont let them get over inflated from heat.

Yeah not long ago I was talking to a driver, he said he needed a reset. He still had 22 hours left on 70, and on third day was set to get back 9+.

    mje Thanks this.
