Most likely wouldnt need one unless he runs hard on day 1 and 2 before he gets the 9 on day 3

I don't undedrstand all the fuss either. I've run solo the last 3 weeks and never needed a 34 hr reset. Aversged 2900 miles in those weeks. Could have gone another week but had extra time before delivery so why not sit back and relax.
Take some time and think about what you do and how you do it, but also how is it going to affect you further down the line in hours. Keep your daily line 3+4 average around 8-9 hours and you'll run plenty of miles, have extra hours for the days you really need to run all day and won't require a restart.
Keywords here are think and plan.

Well if you run 60+ all day, 8 hours is fine, but I drive in areas with traffic and thus I need to drive more hours to get those miles. Also in flatbed we are "on duty" a bit more then most van drivers.

When the tread on a tire is worn down they cover the bald tire with a strip of new tread.
This is a recap , otherwise known as a retread.
No Idea what a reset is.

Pmracing, mje and OtatKen Thank this.

So, the simple answer is the unused hours in a 70/8 carry over giving you 70+/8?

One day fmcsa will make it into law that we must do a recap every day.Anything to make it easier for those nice officers to read our logs.Speaking of logs, does DOT ever check your elogs or do they even know how?

In the school Im in we just finished doing the walk around identifying all the parts and the 5 point break test. Monday we start driving. Somewhere in the next 4 weeks we will get in to logbooks but I like going in to stuff with an understanding rather than no knowledge at all.

I should have mentioned that I'm thinking about changing my handle to the "I95 kid" because that's all I'm seeing lately. But even there if you plan it works out. My rule of thumb for DC, NY city, baltimore, and any other cities as backup as them is, if the sun is up go around. You know they are going to be busy, avoid it.
Realzing that if you only drive local that won't apply to you,

If you don't want to run out of hours don't work (lines 3 & 4 combined) more than an average of 8.75 hours a day. I myself reset often because I'll drive 10+ hours a day. I enjoy my 34 hours off. What's ###### is starting in July a 34 hour reset must include 2 periods between 0100-0500. That's gonna screw a lot of guys

    mje Thanks this.
