My manager wants me to drive from Merced, CA to SLC, UT & arrive by noon the next day. That's longer than an 11 hr drive, (760 miles) I usually only make it to Bonneville, UT with another 1 1/2 hrs to go. Does the split shift allow me to drive OVER my 11?
I usually leave around 1500 hrs after my 10 and another 6 hrs of off duty time.

Sorry, I really don't understand the split shift rule.

The search box in the upper right. Put in "explain split sleeper birth" or anything like it. There are several well written explanations here.

No, it only stops the 14 provided you have at least 8 convective in the sleeper. You'll only be able to drive the remaining of your 11.

Split shift doesn't extend anything. It suspends your clock. You have the same amount of 14 and 11. Just 8 hours later.

After the 8, if you take a 2 later, you get back the time you had before you took your 8, after you do your 2. Either way you will be shut down for 10 hours ... and you only have 20 hours to do a 13 hour plus drive and take 10 hours.

You opportunity for a split is what happens before and in Merced. Why are you taking 10 in Merced? Maybe an 8 there or just a 2.

No, if you drove 8 hours, took an 8 hour break, then you could drive the remaining three hours. You'd then have to take the two hour break.

i ran this route many times via I-80 you'll need a good day and a 1/2 to get to Salt Lake you have 14 hours to get your 11 hours of driving done which is quite simply not enough to get you from there to SLC. you have your 10 hour break then get rolling again .

By the way with the one hour time difference I don't see it being done legal even if you shut down early for your ten somewhere.
Merced to Reno 243miles@57 4.25hrs might as well call it 5.5 forgot about pulling donner
    Reno to slc 510miles
    You'll only average 68/70 bout 7.5 hrs

Tell your manager you'll be there in 24-26 hours. Given 55 in California, you'd have to average 79 mph in Utah. That ain't going to happen.
If you do it once they'll expect you to do it all the time.
You don't have to argue or get mad. Just be professional and tell them when you can make it. If they need it there sooner, they should have sent it sooner. Not your problem someone else didn't make proper plans.
