You can still be considered impared driving a car on hydrocodone. The prescription isn't a get out of jail free card.

Ahhh I see. If they are not going to disqualify you, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to find work. Lots of drivers have mental issues of some sort. Some have ADHD, depression, anxiety, and I've seen them find work. I've got a buddy who takes meds for depression now and hes driven for years, still driving. I'd be willing to bet there's a big population of drivers who take pain meds. Many have bad backs or knees. I think you'll be fine when the time comes. If you can get cleared on your physical, I don't see the issue. Just take each day one step at a time and keep your stress level down.

On a side note, don't come on here trying to justify drinking beer at the truck stop. You need to know your audience here. We all know that occurs, but if a driver gets hammered on his downtime, that's his business. Hopefully he doesn't get the big idea to hit the road. If you drink on your downtime, keep your mouth shut. Not all opinions need to be put in the universe.

Three months ago I got my DOT Physicals before getting the permit. At the time I was only on amitriptyline, and Tylenol and ibuprofen, melotonin as needed. I mentioned them on the form. I also told them I took 4 Hydrocodone pills 4 months ago because I sprained my back real bad and showed them the hydrocodone bottle. The DOT doc didn't say a thing and gave me two year certificate.

That guy deserved to be fired. Not for drinking but for being an idiot. Why did the world need to know that he was getting wasted at the hotel the company paid for? Then he made it too easy for them to find out. One of these days, people will learn the art of keeping their outh shut.

The problem with this is the specific language in 40.85.

§ 40.85 What drugs do laboratories test for?
As a laboratory, you must test for the following five drugs or classes of drugs in a DOT drug test. You must not test “DOT specimens” for any other drugs.

If a carrier is adding to this the test is not DOT sanctioned and the MRO will ignore it. Any lab and MRO that processes improper lab samples can risk losing their certification to do DOT testing. If a carrier wants to test for the other drugs they can't use the official DOT testing system.

This is not my opinion, it is clearly posted in the regs.

    Your milage may vary!

Back sprains are horrible. One morning doing PT exercizes and heating pad I aggravated it so bad it put me in agony. I took 800 mg of Advil and it didn't help. I drove to local Urgent Care and begged them for something. They hesitantly gave me 4 hydrocodone pills. That calmed the pain down. Thank God that back pain is gone completely now. Crazy thing is I injured/twisted my back while getting out of the car lol. I am getting old
