Can Volvo EGR be turned off/bypassed?

    I've seen how the EGR can be shut off on the ISX's, is there any easy way to do this with the Volvo D-16's?

    doesn't the D-16 have a DPF? If you shut off the EGR in a DPF equipped engine, you wil clog up the DPF in a day.

    Pre-07 engines didn't have DPF.

    You didn't say yours was pre-07. Try unplugging it when the engine is cool and the valve is closed?

    Sorry, should have specified. I don't have one, but am considering buying one. Just looking to see if there are easy ways to derestrict them for better fuel economy.

    Any Volvo techs? Is it as simple as a blocking plate, or will this cause problems with the computer?

    I have 2005 volvo with d12 engine and the EGR's have been welded shut. I also heard that it is not possible for volvo engines to get EGR's shut off like on ISX's. My fuel economy has went down to 5.6mpg and the truck driver said it does not pull like it used to. I am currently thinking of getting the welds off but I am not sure if t can be turned off by a computer also. The check engine light is on also which I am not sure if it;s because of the EGR being blocked off.
