Point taken, but there is a shortage in some locations.

Great point, but didn't the 1972 Miami Dolphins go undefeated all season, through the playoffs and win the Super Bowl? 17-0

I remember someone telling me in the Midland- Odessa area of Texas that there was a shortage of girls there lol. It was difficult for a man to find a nice lady due to the numbers favoring the fellas moreso than the ladies. It seems like the state of Wyoming has a shortage of everything lol

I believe there are shortages in certain sectors of trucking. I don't think you'll find a shortage of dry van and reefer drivers. Specialized/heavy haul, tankers, flatbed, that may be a different story. It also depends on who you ask. Powerhouse companies with contacted freight, yes they'll say shortage. Owner ops/small fleets who are reliant on spot market freight they'll say otherwise.

Sometimes luck is with you, sometimes its not. Ever talk to a driver of a car/truck or anything after you watch them make a real poor decision, bad move or plain stupidity and get an answer of " I've been driving this many years without an accident" and Your brain spikes into the red zone wondering how? Luck plain and simple!

They did.....and nobody has done it since. I'm not so sure that will happen ever again. The 07 Patriots almost did, but got tripped up by the Giants in the Super Bowl. They got very close. It's way harder to do that now, because now it's 17 games in the regular season, which means more injuries, or load management, so you need to be 20-0 in this day and age. I can't imagine any team keeping focus for that long. Also, it's more parity now. Anybody can be beaten at any time nowadays. If the 72 Dolphins played today, I don't think they'd go unbeaten. The athletes are much bigger and faster now. It definitely can be done on the college level, as we saw the University of Georgia go undefeated last year, and as great as that team was, they had a couple of near falls, and lady luck was on their side.

There is only a shortage if someone decides "there should be this number of things, but I only count this lesser number of things." In a Communist society there can be a decision made there there must be X truck drivers and there are less than X available. In any society where the govt doesn't decide how many people will be in each industry there is no "right number of people" for any industry. There can be lots of people wishing there were more of those people and less of those people. I can say the gasoline price is due to shortage or I can say I want more gasoline and at cheaper prices. Big deal, I want lots of things. My want doesn't mean there is a shortage. It can mean I just want more of something. NOBODY decides how many truck drivers there will be in the US except the future truck driver, CDL school instructors and examiners and trucking company hiring managers decides if that person should be a truck driver. If you decided to be a movie star, does your high school counselor get to tell you "sorry, you can't be a movie star"? You decided if you want to take acting classes for the next 40 years and work as a waiter/waitress hoping for a Director to "discover" you and give you a lead role in a movie. The trucking companies and industry associations saying there "should be an additional 80,000 truck drivers over the next decade" are the people deciding we will haul cheap freight, buy expensive trucks and insurance, and pay the truck driver whatever money is left over after we pay salaries to all the salary and hourly employees at the company. The trucking insider simply wants to haul more and more and more and more freight while their pay and conditions are driving 80-90% of the 400,000 new CDL drivers each year to leave the industry. If anything, there is a better case that we are greatly over-supplied with truck drivers, not under-supplied.

It happened once, it can happen again. It wasn't common, but it happened. It wasn't easy, but it happened. People win the lottery more than once.
