That's why with around 1.2m on the 93 it still feels pretty much like new. It gets a few shots of grease every weekend or at the very least every other. And that's only running 1500 miles a week. Factory kingpins still in and pretty much everything else is factory except the steering box. My spring pin bushings are the non grease type

Always blows my mind when a 2 or 3 year old truck needs kingpins. 30 years on kingpins is proof enough that regular greasing beats once every 50k miles.

Whoever owned the 99 before us it had 2 owners. They must not of done much maintenance at all. The body has like 685k on it and it needs kingpins already. The trans was only about half filled with oil and same with the rears and the breather clogged

I think I have you beat
Bought a truck from an original owner with 340k
Guy must have just driven It with next to no maintenance
Needed a clutch brake so I did the whole clutch
    King Pins
All tires which no biggie but still had factory shocks on it and this is a big bunk truck

I think I put $25,000 in it before I put 10k miles on it but at least I now know what I have and only thing else that may need changing will be brakes and drums

    I agree to a point.

older trucks had EGT gauge installed, these newer trucks took that away and gave it to the computer. This is essential on DD15’s because the top end melts because of temperatures. Once air flow is altered so are temperatures. Many think better hp and mpg you get because the absence of exhaust gas in the fuel mixture is great but fail to see that it raises EGT and going up hill makes it fun.

so yes a proper tune is needed but so is a EGT gauge and knowing how to read it and use it.

We just finished rebuilding the trans. Should of done right when we got it but it we put close to a 100k on it clunking pretty bad on the low side and it was noisy as hell Lol. Who knows might of gone 200k more or crapped out on the next run. Bearing cage was completely gone and a snap ring missing. Metal shavings were all over the magnetic pads on the bottom of the trans. Completely agree with you about having a pyro. If a guy buys a used fleet truck it definitely won't have one Lol. I'd never run a hot truck w/o a pyro

Or the programmer could actually write proper tunes.

Yes a pyro gauge would be great but it'd be better if there were some protections added in as well.
