Just make sure you have the OK of the AUTHORITY HOLDER before taking a passenger. I have actually watched OOs argue about this with DOT officers. The way this crap starts is either the driver or the passenger starts mouthing off at the DOT cop. Most DOT officers are cool about it and won't bother you. Most of the time if they see a passenger or a co-driver not in the sleeper they might ask about their status. If they say I am a passenger and tell the DOT officer you have the OK to be in the truck they will leave you alone. Just don't get into a pissing contest with the cop. Otherwise, you should be OK. The pet thing, just clear it with the carrier. Because I know somebody is going to make the inevitable comment it is my truck I will do whatever I (redacted) well please I am going to link the regulation and tell you to hash that out with the DOT!

No written authorization, however, shall be necessary for the transportation of:
(1) Employees or other persons assigned to a commercial motor vehicle by a motor carrier;
(2) Any person transported when aid is being rendered in case of an accident or other emergency;
(3) An attendant delegated to care for livestock.
(b) This section shall not apply to the operation of commercial motor vehicles controlled and operated by any farmer and used in the transportation of agricultural commodities or products thereof from his/her farm or in the transportation of supplies to his/her farm.tscottme Thanks this. -
