Thats not the issue at all. He wasnt a truck driver and he didnt have a legal permit. The issue if there were an issue would carrying by a parade or carrying inside a restaurant that serves alcohol. Most people cant carry in NJ anyway.

No, it's very possible. It just requires one to research the laws on the states they're traveling to and through. Doesn't really take that long. If you're in a state which requires the firearm to be secured and out of reach, that's what you do. You make sure the firearm is compliant with state laws. I didn't go to California, so I didn't worry about California laws. But I made sure I had a firearm which was compliant with the laws of the AWB states, and that I was transporting it in a legal manner in all states I was driving through. That's all there is to it.

Please pardon my ignorance, I have been driving about a year. What does AWB states mean?

AWB = "Assault" Weapons Ban. When the Clinton ban went into sunset in 1994, some states wrote it into the state legislature. Aside from banning firearms with more than one feature on a list of cosmetic features, there's also a prohibition on magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds (unless they were manufactured prior to the passage of the Clinton ban in September of 1994). Those states are New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, D.C., and Cook County, Illinois. California's ban dates to 1989, is much more restrictive, and also includes most handguns for which a magazine over 10 rounds is even an option in a free state.

you just take a 4-6hr class then you have up to 6 months to take the paper work from the class down to DMV pay the fee (i think it's $115) then they will give you the paper to get your finger prints done... 1-3 months later you will get your ccw (must carry with you) when you renew your CDL it will show you have a ccw

I have not read every post in this thread but read all in the others. My question is about stun guns like this one http://www.amazon.com/Master®-Mini-...QA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?tag=mercubrows-20
What is the legality about these? What would happen with an inspection if it was found in the bunk area? I guess partial answer would be based on particular states but what about in general? Less likely to go to jail than with a gun? -
Legality of stun guns and tazers varies by state.

If a state that you are passing through does not honor your concealed carry license then all you have to do is secure the weapon legally. Meaning remove that amunition and lock the weapon up in a case, which a locked glove box is recognized as. If you are passing through a state that has reciprocity with the state that issued your concealed carry license then you can carry it loaded and on the passenger seat if you wish too.
Concealed Carry license holders are federally regulated by a higher order then FMCSA. -
I just want to clarify, in the state of California a locked glove box does not count as a separate locked container. The weapon must be locked in a separate case than the ammo, be it a hard plastic case or a neoprene case as long as you can place a lock on it. Both the ammo and locked container can be within the same bag such as a range bag.
In California you have to go though a training course before you can buy a handgun, the permit lasts 5 years. I was not a shooter before but with the way things are going I felt we needed to have some sort of home protection so we took an 8 hour course.
