Air conditioner is blowing hot air and it is 100 degrees out. Can it be charged with a can of 134a freon hooked up to the low pressure line like my own personal Honda oe does it require something special?
can you charge the AC in an international just like you would any other car?

I do my own work and use vaccum to find a leak and proper gauges. Sounds like you arent up to speed on this work yet but heres a little info to help you
If the a/c blows cold for a little bit, then gets hot, than its freezing over because your cabin air filter is non existant or the evaporator under the dash is completely filthy and has turned into an ice block. If that the case, it needs to be flushed out and cleaned externally with solvent and garden hose.
If your system is low on refridgrant, your a/c clutch will continuously cycle on and off. Go ahead and add about a can and a half but that also means you have a leak somewhere. A/c systems dont usually run out of 134 but for now you can do it to get by till you can get the system checked. Im pretty sure modern systems will show a green dye leaking from whatever leaky seal.BTW when you buy the can, it will only fit on the proper line. proper gauges and the autozone cans have 2 different size connectors so you dont hit the wrong line by accident.snowlauncher, TripleSix, JonJon78 and 3 others Thank this. -
Depends on what year your truck is.
Not all trucks use R134.
I also wouldn't recommend throwing 1 1/2 cans in without knowing what the YOUR doing and what the HI side reads. Granted it's an easy task but the bottom line is. You're playing with fire. And could end up with costly repairs. And when you use those cans. YOu allow air to get in to the system.
And it only takes 2 oz. to start losing coldness. YOu probably won't even need a full can.Last edited: Jun 30, 2019

You can also bleed the air out of the line. Just a little purge, right before hooking it up.

On all my Trucks, the compressor will run constantly, while filling. Once I get close to proper amount, the compressor will cycle off. If I overfill it, the compressor will cycle on and off a lot. Pressure too high. When it’s just right, it will cycle on and stay on longer than it stays off. Ideally on a hot humid day, it stays on at least twice as long, as it stays off.Thats at a high Idle, with fan working properly, The fan usually comes on when compressor cycles off, and compressor cycles back on when fan goes off.

Principle is the same. Hook up to the low side and add refrigerant. However, it quit working for a reason. Los of refrigerant or as has been stated, your air flow is blocked which causes the pressure to rise and the high pressure cutoff switch is opening. You can get those quick charge kits at the auto parts store with wn included gage. However, if you have a large enough leak, the 134A will just leak out and you will be back to no A/C.
Rideandrepair Thanks this.
