I have a TND 720, I have been debating on purchasing the lifetime updates for a used TND 710, that I got ahold of. Purchasing a new 720 that includes lifetime updates. Or purchasing COpilot truck for my phone.

Theres 2 things thats stopping me from purchasing more Rand Mcnally products. 1 is, their routing never seems to match mine. For example, if you google map, Rochelle, IL to Marshalltown, IA. Google maps, and my company suggest taking, I-88-I-80-I-380-US-30. But Rand Mcnally wants you to take I-88-US-30. Which is more time. So what Im wondering is if there is any way to customize this route to get it to follow the route you want it to?

Also, how long do these 710s usually last? I got it from my trainer, and hard telling how long hes had it. Is it worth the gamble of buying the lifetime maps and having it go out on you. Or do you think its better to buy a 720 with lifetime maps included?

Just enter waypoints to force the routing to what you want.

After entering your destination, go back into the route menu. You can add waypoints or "vias" to the trip by telling it to use a destination as a via. You can also select the current trip and re-arrange those vias either letting the thing do it itself, or by manually moving them into the correct order. Every time you hit a via, you can tell it to skip to the next destination, and get the navigation software to jump to the routing to the next waypoint.

Going from Chicago to the east coast, just about every GPS will put you on the Toll Road. I hate paying tolls, and US30, I71, I76 to I80 is a good way to get to NYC, IMO. I'll tell my Rand 710 to use Chesterton IN, Fort Wayne IN, Bucyrus OH, Youngstown OH, and Stroudsburg PA as intermediate destinations to get into Jersey the way I want to, for example. It works for me.

    try this,

    Fastest
    Tollways avoid
    Prefer freeways

It routes the way you wish.

If you set to allow freeways then it will take 88-30.

    Thanks,
    Mark
