The eld my company uses will give a precise GPS location when the logs are printed out... It doesn't show on the eld unit in the truck, but once I email my logs to myself in pdf form and view them it lists the duty status changes with precise GPS locations below the graph... I would assume that is the same when you send them to a dot officer or when the company looks at them.
Below is a photo of one of my old logs... Notice the precise locations that I have circled... Notice that the first 4 duty status each have a slightly different location showing that I crept to a different parking spot in the middle of my 10 hr which is where I did my pre trip, then crept to the fuel island.

Thank you Cattleman84. Some of these drivers just want to make their own rules and call it the law.

Mine has a map showing my location in real time. The map is in the admin program that the office uses to monitor the truck that the ELD is connected to. I will check mine tomorrow when I PC home. I will pull up the map when I get home after my PC trip to see if it displays my location or not. I’ll report back tomorrow......
Expeditor, Cattleman84 and TruckRunner Thank this. -
Thanks Makeajump, but remember what you see on your screen might be different from what the back office sees. I believe Cattleman not only explained it but proved it with a picture of his logs.
You sure can disconnect that ELD, just like you can speed, and drink and drive and run without logs, it's America, you have the freedom, but remember just because you can do it doesn't make it right it legal.
For those of you who are disconnecting ELD you might see no harm in that, but let the company get audited, or have someone drop a dime, yes I'm old, ALL miles on truck must be accounted for. Even when a mechanic takes the truck for test drive, he doesn't log into anything, but those miles must be account for in a note the carrier puts in.Cattleman84 and Tb0n3 Thank this. -
If you're running it on an android tablet, couldn't you just use an app like Fake GPS?
I would hide the app in a hidden folder. -
I operate a Keep trucking ELD. It's not in any drivers best interest to unplug it..but if you do, all the data will be picked back up. With this particular one, you have to turn your Bluetooth on. Otherwise it will show a driving event when you turn it back on. PC can be used to go to a friend's house, as long as it's within a reasonable distance. Some guys abuse and try to pick up loads under PC. I don't understand why people unplug it. Keep Trucking doesn't always pinpoint you to the exact location, but it is more accurate than some. Just make a note under the PC if you hang out somewhere

Remember the carrier is responsible for the records, the ELD the driver's use that company is holding the records for the carrier, which must keep records for 6 months.
About PC it is up to the LEO to determine how far you can go. I know doesn't make sense, but that is what it reads. In Canada they are more proactive and I belive it states 47? Miles, but of course in kilometers.
The time driving under personal conveyance must allow the driver adequate time to obtain the required rest in accordance with minimum off-duty periodsunder 49 CFR 395.3(a)(1) (property-carrying vehicles) or 395.5(a) (passenger-carryingvehicles) before returning to on-duty driving, and the resting location must be the first such location reasonably available..
Edited miles and removed PC starting point that has changed.Last edited: Sep 15, 2018
brian991219 Thanks this. -
The OP can get a 99 or older, engine ,truck, if the carrier will accept it.Then they can be on paper. Or park in a truck stop an uber it.
Remember for O/O that are leased to a carrier. You must send in your toll recites, fuel and all maintenance on that truck. Not everyone does it but that is a requirement to run a carrier under FMCSA. -
