I am in an Iveco Stralis, 2016 model.
My alternator is out, I dont think its charging the batteries fully, I am hoping slightly, but I doubt it.
I did 600 miles y7esterday no problems, and the truck started fine this morning, I have 600 to go, the truck is running and I dont plan on shutting it off.
I have error codes coming on the dash, but truck is running fine.
Is 1200 miles with no Alternator too much?
Can you do 1200 miles with no Alternator

under a certain threshold, the ecm will shut down the engine.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
No gauge on dash? Don’t run at night, headlights will drain it fast. Try to pick one up along the way. At least you’ll have it. If it’s a manual park on a hill, before shutting it off. If it has air leaks, keep an eye on the air gauge. Once below 60 lbs. Brakes won’t release. Can you make it? Let us know. An extra new battery onboard would insure you don’t get stranded.

The truck has 4 batteries connected at the moment

It must be working at least a little bit. I’ve had that happen twice and neither truck went more then about 150 miles.

Nope, Didnt make it, she started to go crazy and throw codes and windscreen wipers came on, and now it wont get into gear.
So I have organised to get a new one put in.
We made it around 600 miles though, thats not too bad...Rideandrepair and bzinger Thank this. -
Silly question, but why didn't you stop within all of those miles somewhere and get another alternator whether you put it on or had someone else put it on?
This Thread kind of reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer took the car out for the test drive and he had to see how far it would go until it ran out of fuel...Rideandrepair, Midwest Trucker, Chieftains and 2 others Thank this. -
I am in Australia, parts between the major cities are hard to come by, and the local mechanics in small towns are fully booked for 2-3 days. If you break down there it could mean 1-2 days for parts and then another day for the mechanic to be available .
I wasn't in the truck it was my driver, he couldn't put an alternator in as he is a driver in 2021.
So getting the truck to a major city is a big plus. The major cities are 1000km apart.
Especially with my truck which isn't as popular so parts aren't stocked.
I didn't think the truck would make, but thought I would ask. I was hoping we had some charge going to batteries, but no.Rideandrepair, beastr123 and blairandgretchen Thank this.
