If your mirrors and windows are dirty or the DOT numbers and name is obscured by the dirt, like if you used the truck as a mudder.

Judging by some of the dirty looking junk I've seen rolling down the road, uh, NO.

Keep those trailer lights clean; all of them. I haven't received a ticket for dirty trailer lights and marker lights, but I have been told by a DOT cop at the scales, to clean those lights.

Tell the DOT if he wants the trk cleaned then you pay to have it done, lol.I wouldn't think they could fine you for a dirty trk unless the mirrors, dot number and anything else of importance is not visable like Ridgeline said.

I think the logic is if you keep your truck clean, you tend to pay attention to details more and are less likely to be in violation anywhere.
Dirty trucks get pulled over more. I think they figure it's a higher percentage possibility to find something wrong.
I know my company pays any driver to have his truck washed before entering Cali. They don't spend money for nothing, so there must be some validity.

If clods of dirt fall off you may get a ticket or at least have to pay for a windshield.

Dirt is "reasonable cause" to pull you over in the name of safety (i.e. - We couldn't see your brake lights or directionals), after that they can look for other violations or infractions at will.
