There are plenty of 'white collar' jobs that aren't so hot. Working in a trucking terminal is one of them. If you want to continue your education while trucking, take on-line classes. There are even several on-line law schools that are California Bar Association apporoved. After 4 years of trucking/law school, you would be a crackerjack transportation attorney. All the truckers will be running to you with their legal problems!
Can you get a white collar job after being in trucking industry?

Good idea! I'm getting my mba online through Ashford University. Do you have any of the names of the schools you mentioned?
-
3 online law schools that are California Bar Association approved (though not ABA approved)
-Concord School of Law
-Abraham Lincoln University
-St. Francis School of Law
After 4 years of study, you will be able to sit for the Cal. Bar Exam (one of the hardest in the nation)
After passing, you will be licensed to practice law in Cal. and before Federal courts and agencies, but not in other states. The ABA is considering allowing online law schools, but this will be a long time coming. -
While you most likely COULD get a white color job.
Why?Numb Thanks this. -
why indeed!! I don't think I could go back to sitting in an office,(Quality Control dept manager). Don't play well with others anymore , especially office drones or young pups with the know-it-all attitude.
I run into them now, but it is only for brief periods. then it's back in the truck and I'm gone. -
I doooo NOT miss cubieville one bit.

I agree the worst day on the truck is better than the best day in the cubical.

A lot of today's younger people would rather live at home with their parents before taking a job that would label them as "working class" or "blue collar" God forbid. I knew a young fork lift driver at a company I worked at and he wanted a job in the office so he could wear slacks and "look" professional.
The fact that you're looking at options like truck driving is a good thing. Most job openings over the next 10 years are going to be "working class" or service jobs. But these jobs that a lot of people have such a low opinion of tend to make more money, i.e. truck driving vs. customer service. You might also look into plumbing, electrician, and AC/Heating work. With customer service jobs, you can stay clean and basically pretend you're white-collar, but you're making shiite wages. These other "dirty" jobs pay the bills, etc.
If you're successful at whatever you do you can work your way into the ranks of the upwardly mobile and socio-economic success classes. Ultimately it probably comes down to who you want to hang with. It's really fracked up. If you were raised in the burbs, had a free ride to college, basically accustomed to living the good life, you're going to have a hard time. But best to get down to it now rather than suffer later.Last edited: Jul 25, 2012

Excellent advice. Lots of kids out there don't have the grit - or the opportunities - to come up in the building trades or the like (blue collar.) Many just don't really want to get dirty. "My parents didn't raise me to be a ...." Fill in the blanks. I agree it is about who do you want to hang out with. Because that is ultimately who you are anyway. You could do a lot worse than truck driving.

Yes, I want to play golf on the weekends, go to happy hour at the trendy pub during the week, work 8 to 5, drive an Audi, have a trophy wife, and travel the world. But life isn't fair. Especially for today's kids who grew up with parents like this. The world and economy is really changing and this lifestyle is going to be reserved for the truly elite while the rest of us squander in the trenches.
And trucking is a refuge of sorts for many of these truly disaffected. You can make good money while not having to conform to any particular socioeconomic class. You can wear suit and tie while you're driving for God's sake, who cares? lolFreezer Burn and opium eater Thank this.
