warning tickets go against your CSA. always beg for the real ticket. at least you can get a ticket reduced. nothing can be done with a warning ticket.

The discussion isn't about warning vs citation, it is wether a warning or citation given WITHOUT a dot inspection count against csa.

Had one go out during the inspection. It worked when he started and went out before it was over. Got the ticket as well.

" including all safety-based violations " <--- part of that second paragraph.
    "...
the Safety Measurement System (SMS) quantifies the on-road safety performance of carriers and drivers to identify candidates for interventions." <----- party of the first paragraph.

Which means, your on board computer can result in CSA points being issued when a review is made on vehicle performance (non-ticketed speeding still shows up on your computer).

How do I know?... a couple of our drivers got points without tickets and were called in by the Safety Department to be warned about excessive speed.

You don't have to have a roadside inspection... that computer can be your friend as well as your enemy.

Drive Safe, don't speed, plan your drive and drive your plan.

My experience (Minnesota). After 20 years of local law enforcement experience I have never filled out a commercial vehicle inspection form. When I have had accidents involving a commercial vehicle I have called the state patrol dot guys. Non-injury accidents they usually have waived the inspection if they are too far away. They also rely on my judgment.

Now, the state of MN does have a program for law enforcement other than the state patrol to get certified to do dot inspections. Problem is that it is a lengthy training. Most departments aren't interested in sending a guy away for that long.

So in conclusion, in Minnesota the only person that will do the inspections is the state patrol unless the other law enforcement agency has had the specialized training.

If you get stopped by an officer who does not have the training and they issue you a citation that is commercial vehicle specific, that would be a good one to consult with an attorney over. The argument in court will be what a commercial vehicle inspection is. If asked to see you log book will the court count that as an inspection, so therefore specialized training is needed. Sometimes it just comes down to a specific judge.

well accidents are a bit of a different animal. from my reading any accident, whether an inspection is done or not, shows up on csa since there is a crash basic.

im curious to know how they know you were over the speed limit. does the computer record what road you were driving a particular speed on? heck my qual com gps navigation is worse than my rand gps at telling me what road i am on, half the time it shows me out in the woods. and i imagine it uses the same gps receiver as the qual com computer. now maybe the truck was ungoverned and covered a distance in an amount of time not possible without exceeding the speed limit ie covering 750 miles in 10 hours in a state like pa which has a max speed of 65mph, or even recording a speed of 75mph at any time in such a statei can understand. but getting a speeding violation on a certain road at a certain time with what can be easily proven as an unreliable tracking system at best....

be that as it may, it still goes without saying. i wouldnt take a warning citation from an inspection or not. a ticket can be fought.

A warning ticket as the end result of a scorable violation IS scorable with CSA. It happened to me.
