I actually watch very little TV. What I do watch, I download to my laptop when I have good WiFi access. As for movies, Redbox is my best friend.

Are you still in school or with a trainer still? Being a student you probably don't have much time to watch etc.

You can either mount a dish on your truck (remove before driving) and carry an extra receiver; or if you have access to a relatively good INTERNET connection (4G, 4Glte or sometimes 3G will work),you can create an account on Directtv.com and watch on your laptop or tablet. If you have Premium movie channels (HBO, SHO, MAX etc), you can also create accounts using your Directtv sign-in info on their websites
    .

I do all of these things, plus subscribe to Netflix

How do I connect my laptop with the INTERNET?
    STEP 1
SPRINT; which offers the ONLY truly UNLIMITED plan plus TMobile and Verison both employ USER-AGENT technology, which blocks your ability to get to any webpage unless you configure your computer to post using a fake USER AGENT of a phone browser
    STEP 2
You can use an ANDROID, IPhone or Blackberry
Search your particular APP Store for a program called "Easy Tether"
FULL VERSION is $9.95 I suggest that because nothing is blocked.

FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS and you can have speeds like 26.9mbs down and 16mbs up in Bolingbrook, IL
(speeds vary according to your location)
I run the INTERNET thru my laptop to a wifi router and connect my PS3 and play COD Black Ops2 online most nights for a couple hours before I watch TV.

My television has an HDMI out and I have a 32in Visio HDMI television in my bunk.
I ALSO "rip" DVDs and convert them to MP4 and put them on an axillary USB drive (2TB).
I currently have almost 400 movies and a couple dozen television shows

When you say all of these things do you have a direct tv on your truck too? I have direct TV at home and can watch tv via wifi but will need to get unlimited service to do that. I tried it once and it said due to band with etc... To slow to watch at that time.

ya, you need a good 3G or 4G connection that isn't being used by too many other people, or a 4Glte.
SPRINT has the only unlimited plan. The rest just claim theirs is unlimited

Oh, and yes; I also have a dish mount on my truck. I'll post pics later

True, if you happen to be within 20 miles or so of a major city that has Sprint 4G.

Most OTR drivers have either Verizon or AT&T for coverage reasons.

Since you have satellite at home you can act like you want another receiver for a bedroom. It cost like $5 more a month. Then just use that receiver in your truck after it's activated. You can get your hands on another dish and LNB. I have 3 here at the house I don't use. I even see free ones on CL from time to time. Maybe one of your friends might have a dead dish on their house you can get.

You have several mounting options. When I use to install satellites we did pole mounts on a 2 3/8" chain link fence post. You can use anything similar in diameter and mount the pole to the truck and take the dish down when traveling. In the on screen menu you can get the azimuth and compass direction by zip code as it changes across the US. Or you can get you a digisat meter online fairly cheap to get the best signal. I've seen many truckers that will mount a short pole to their mirror bracket. It's tacky looking but fully functional.

not true. I have 4Glte coverage just about everywhere I run, and along major interstate highways except in Nebraska, Wyoming and Nevada, which I seldom run anyway. Other than that, I DO have nationwide cell phone coverage. The same cannot be said for the others.
And why would you want ATT, Verizon or TMobile? They limit your bandwidth. TMobile and Verizon also use USER AGENT STRING technology so if you tether your computer, you are blocked, unless you SPOOF a cell phone USER AGENT STRING

I know this thread is for Direct sat, and the options mentioned are the best way to go if you already have a subscription.
For those w/ out a subscription to satellite, and limited wireless data packages, do a search for FTA (Free to Air) satellite. You can pick up some good units cheap on ebay.

There is a way to get Dish, and Bell cheap! but that's a bit illegal.

Here is a few sites I use for help:
