I haven't heard of any real problems with Qualcomm units causing problems in trucks. I had a Qualcomm MCP 200 with e-log in my last truck, and now in my present ride, and have not had any electrical issues or conflicts with ECM, etc. Not saying it doesn't ever happen, but it must not be too common.

I'll put this out there, has anyone had e-logs checked in MN, that has actually been the only state I have had checks made of my logs, once on a Saturday evening on a 2 lane STAA route looking for people trying to get home?

I got the impression that an e-log wouldn't deter them.

I actually hope that yours is correct. I have not been able to be 100% sure.

If you have a link, I would love to see it.

The biggest problem is the installer, if you get some trucking company fleet mechanic installing the unit, well, the old adage about getting what you paid for comes to mind....

These Qcom units have been around forever now, I wonder why the OEM's aren't building trucks with plug n' play harnesses in them already?

That would solve a lot of problems.

My point exactly, the more flexibility you remove from the system, the more rigid the system becomes, the more accidents you'll have, as drivers who previously would take a break and then get going will now feel a need to keep pushing, because the 14 hour clock is running and the 10 hour mandatory break is an un-yielding master....

Let's say you're on your 10 hour break, and you wake up after sleeping 7 hours, you went straight to bed at the beginning of the ten, fell right out out cause you were tired, and woke up with 3 freaking hours remaining before you could legally drive....

So, now, in all practical purposes the 14 hour clock just became a 17 hour clock.... cause of the inflexible rule, and the electronic monitoring....

    way to go..

Not in MN for me, but in MT a few months ago at the coop south of Belgrade. They checked during an inspection... normally though when the DOT bear asks for my logs and I say that they're computerized and does he want to see them on the computer or have me print them out, the response has been along the lines of "Oh. OK. Are you in violation of HOS? No? OK, let's check your lights now." and he walks away not having even checked my logs. 99% of the time that's the case for me, at least.

I use trucklogger, too, and have been really happy with it. It runs on Linux, so I don't have to use a virtual machine for a simple logging application. It also can use a GPS for auto-filling your locations if you wish.

I run team with my wife, the DOT usually lose interest in my logs when they see I'm running team and I'm not visibly tired.....

This was a team effort, 4 officers or so with 3 vehicles, looking specifically for someone trying to get home or somewhere else out of hours when enforcement would normally not be working.

It surprised me only a little because of being in close proximity with MN and the news coverage the court case has brought about, but I hadn't been stopped away from a coop anywhere but in MN and Iowa in 10 years.
