Drum Roll Please...When I first got my truck I kelp taking it to Volvo complaining about the piss poor 5.5-5.8 fuel mileage after a while they hooked up the computer and told me it was because of my lead foot and showed me on the computer where I once got as high as 129mph I dont remember that and doubt I did it but I know I been over 100mph and that was going up black mountian racing a 4 wheeler he gave up but I was empty Needless to say now days I wont go over 70mph fuel cost too much and I love getting 6.5mpg or better. And I tried that georgia overdrive once about 25 years ago and never again that was a scary ride burned up the trailer brakes seals and all thought I was going off the side of the mountian 10 foot flames coming from under the trailer and lost a whole day getting new brakes seals and bearings

Why would there be a shock? I never had a shock when I pulled my 10-ton back in gear. Just match the rpm with the gear and the speed. With 58 tons of M88 Tank Retriever pushing, there would be a heck of a shock, if you missed.

    SHC Thanks this.

Since Diamond T hasn't come back in, I took the liberty of running his numbers. He's either been lied to, is delusional, or is attempting to run some BS through here. I hope it's not the last, as we all know that TTR is not the lunch counter. So here they are:

    131 mph / 60 min/hr * 495 rev/mi =1080.75 rpm for the tires

    1080.75 rpm * 3.25 (rear axle ratio) * .73 ( 18th gear ) = 2564 rpm

Even giving the benefit of doubt that there was a typo, and it should have 2120 rpm, one would still need another box with a .83 OD to get the revs down where they belong. And if your curious as to just how tall it'd have to be to do the 1120? Well that'd take .32 total overdrive or another .43 OD behind the 18 speed in a second box.

And a freaking EMD to overcome the torque loss of that kind of overdrive!:biggrin_2556:

Years ago I drove for a lady in Oh. All Kw's. Mostly glider kits. First trk. was a factory 74 with a 325 cat made into a 425 with a 5x4
Then got the 77 KW glider. cummins 350 and a 10 x 4 turned around. Best I did was 90, but it would hold it. Previous driver had a ticket for 120 posted on the shop board.Boss was not amused. She said keep them under 100.
