You will be better of staying east of LA like Hysperia or north of LA at least on the north side of the Grapevine or Bakersfield you probably won't get hassled there but truck stops in LA are few and pretty small even fontana the TA charges for parking.
Can you live out of a van at a truck stop?

If you think Chicago is any cheaper you'll be in for an unwelcome surprise. I was paying almost $3,700 in property tax on a $300k house mind you. Then in January when it's -20F and even with your car's heat on full blast you're still cold. Or when you wake up in the middle of winter to go to work and find your car is stuck in five feet of snow and it takes you two hours to dig out. Have fun with all that. Yes, California has it's own problems but for me life is too short to fight winter every year.Last edited: Oct 20, 2015
Dreamboat Thanks this. -
I had some cloth shopping bags I take with me and they stole those out of my cart. I searched inside and outside the store for the thief but didn't spot him/her. Good thing too, because I was PO'd big time.scottlav46 Thanks this. -
North Las Vegas is a ghetto.
propertyvegas.com will help you find a nice rental.
No personal income taxes in Nevada. -
I went to San Diego this last weekend. Planned on a thurs fri sat sun, drive home monday trip. I fled back to Arizona Saturday afternoon. So many bums, so many beggars, so many people ... even going to the beach wasn't fun, just a people packed park a mile away pain in the ###.
I wish you luck on your move. You will fit right in living out of your vehicle, there are thousands of others in that area doing the same thing. Nothing in this world would entice me to move to that #### hole.
Vegas is a much better option. Lots of driving work, fair pay, and currently low housing cost. -
A lot,of places have bob tail parking and to be honest If I had no where to go I'd take a bobtail spot and claim it mine.
But also in reality I wouldn't be at truck stop I'd park in a Walmart parking lot somewhere in the back. For the price you buy a soda at a truck stop you could buy two at Walmart. Truck stops are convenient store. And they can price things however they feel. Because you need something and they have it you're going to buy it.
As far as showering goes I guess I'd hope,Walmart is down the street from Walmart -

If you are under 30 it could be fun for awhile. Otherwise you're just another homeless person living in your car. If you could save up just a few thousand dollars you could go be a bum on a beach on an obscure Philippine island and live pretty well for a half a year or more if you really bum it.

If you get a gym membership at a big chain, you can take showers there. Also if you go later closer to closing you can stay in the parking lot. Some memberships are cheap and it would be cheaper that 15 bucks a shot. But do get on you tube. tons of urban camping info. wanderlust estates, Justin credible, nomadic fanatic. all are good for tips. also look up van life, it will give you more info.
