So, my hubby is a newby Millis driver - He just got his own truck and is getting going - My question is this - I've been staying with my mom helping her out - and she lives far away from the original hiring area that my hubby got hired from - I'm thinking about getting a place to be closer to my mom in case she needs me...but without living WITH her. My hubby, being otr gets by here once in a while, but when he requests home time - its only like a 2 hr drive to go get him from the terminal to bring him back home - Does it matter if we didn't "technically" live in the hiring area - its not like hes driving out of route to be home - I go get him..can someone explain the expectations of residency
Can you live outside the hiring area, if already hired?

It doesn't matter to the company as long as he take the truck to the terminal he can do whatever he wants i was living in ny and my home terminal was in pa i took the truck to to the terminal and took a bus home.

oh my, I would be super relieved to hear that. I feel bad being so far from my mom and as much as I love her, don't want to live here..would rather be in the same town in my own place!!

It doesn't matter if your hubby "technically" lives outside the hiring area. Does he make it to work on time? Does he deliver on time? I live well outside the "hiring area." The only thing that matter$ is the bottom line.

every company handles this differently
Transam didn't hire from NH
but I took HT sometimes in NH to see my parents
you really need to ask them directly
common sense doesn't always prevail -
Living outside their hiring area will just make it harder to get hometime, Thats what hiring areas are all about

The hiring areas really aren't that small. If this place is close enough for you to drive and pick him up it would most likely be no issue at all. If there is a place close to the new house to park a big truck he can probably just tell dispatch the new address and roll the truck right to the house when it's time to go home. As long as you aren't talking about moving to the west coast or something like that I'm sure he will be fine.

He should talk to his dispatcher or personnel but dont think it is an issue. I live over 2 hrs frok terminal and intake the truck home

I live 65 miles from Cartersville near Chattanooga, I have never been allowed to take the truck home lol

I live about and hour from St. Louis just north of 64 in Centralia, IL. I always take the truck to the house. I believe I would be finding another job if they said I had to park at a terminal. Lol
