What are some of the best tips on obtaining employment operating a dump truck in the Chicagoland area? I've staked out a few quarries writing down some trucking company names while watching them enter and exit the quarry but was hoping to get some tips on contacting someone in those companies or how it might be best to approach them rather than just cold calling.

Cold calling is how I got my job hauling asphalt for the last 6 years; they appreciate the interest you initiate actually.

Well here's what a friend of mine did. He posted on Craigslist that he was looking for a dump truck driving job. He had a job in two days. Also look on Craigslist in the job section under transport. Phone numbers listed that may go directly to hiring person.

What you should do first is talk to a couple of the drivers from each company, see how they like working there, how many years they themselves have been working there.

You can make money and the work is easy. Except when you have to shovel. The biggest thing to worry about with dump trucks/ dump trailers is level ground and doing the same routine every time you dumb, then double and triple check. Even if it's not level you can still dump if you know what to do but the risk factor increases. I've put one side of my trailer on a pile of dirt to dump the trailer because how off center the load was. 20160513_085659878.jpeg 20160429_115727817.jpeg IMG_20160411_190944.jpg

Nice...is the yellow one you? Nice rig, if so. Yeah, I did it for awhile many moons ago. . . scary shiite at times. I've watched two turn over in my years of asphalt. And I thought my many hoses and PTO valves, etc... were confusing, LoL!

It's not a job for the simple minded. If you have problems slamming doors you shouldn't try this. But hey we do hit the loading docks 2 1463572829797.jpg 20160420_100408.jpg
