If I were to at some point in my career buy my own truck, would a company still let me work for them, repair my truck, pay for gas, etc.

that is a question for which there is no simple answer that will last under all conditions ~ in one industry one can get a license but what happens is then the shop owner removes you from employment due to competitive concerns - for trucking it is probably different ~ suggest you post the same question either in Owner-Operator or ask an experienced driver .... if admin says that is double posting tell them I said so and let me work it out ( admin ~ just del if nec & I can figure it out )

anyway, what exactly happens at company may depend on who exactly you talk to ~ for what you are asking I suggest writing a letter directly to central operations asking them who you should ask & include the question + ask that it be forwarded to dept with authority

it will vary, no matter who tells you what but big companies only get big by recognizing those like this who are trying to do something constructive

edit: I think I missed the original question slightly ~ how do you not be an O-O if you are doing all the work you state?......any business that is legal may be conducted by businesses - if xyz agrees to lease trucks from you like major leasing companies then xyz agrees to lease trucks from you like major leasing companies ~ if you own the truck and you operate the truck - you are an Owner-Operator,.....I think you are missing something in the formulation of your question

no. if you own it ,you will operate it.if you put a driver in it,you are still operating it.weather or not the company allows you to do this while remaining a company driver is up to that company.

We own 2 trucks, have drivers for both. We run with a company that gets hired on for specific jobs...and they just use our trucks as contracted labor, I believe. This is local hauling though, and not over the road. No even sure if this was the same thing you were referring to.

yes you can own a truck lease it where you r and still company drive. you cant own a truck with another compay and drive for another. it a breech of contract. as an o/o no company will do or pay anthing for you. they will give you shop discounts and fuel surcharges

    NO.

you either buy it out right and operate your OWN business, or you lease it and pay hefty charges.
