Can I add SAE 5W40 to the steering fluid reservoir on the International 9400i?

What about SAE30 or SAE 15W40?
    Those are all motor oil.

    Thanks

I have done it in several trucks over the years. Used Rotella 15w40. Also use it in ford pick up power steering.

normally I would use 15W40 but I ran out, so I added some 5W40, I wonder if that damages anything?

this question is not stupid because I'm not sure if I can add specific type of motor oil in the steering
    Anyone else?

being a trained and certified mechanic ill say you can run just about any oil in a steering system as long as it multi viscosity, unless specifically stated on the cap or resevoir, but usually your ok.

great, thanks, now I'm relived I didn't damage anything by adding a different oil in there, but I ran out this type and added the other type then I ran out and added the third type, is it bad to mix all those together or is it fine to mix?

Just depends on how bad a headache you can handle!

I suggest staying with beer or wine.....that hard liquor can really do you in!:biggrin_25522:
