He has an apu that has an a/c it only works when the engine is off so he doesn't have to bake when getting rest. but his main a/c doesn't work he is expected to drive without it .

Oh yes, I forgot the OP details.

Be grateful you have that luxury of those creature comforts driver....we are all much better off with them than without.

Well, yesterday when I was heading south with the windows rolled down and all the hot wind rushing around my head, I was humbled.

Then today, the AC is back working, for a bit I am sure, so I'm a bit more appreciative.

The batteries will only take what they need to reach a full state of charge. When the batteries are fully charged, the alternator(s) are just coasting.

The guys that are into keydown competitions run multiple 320 amp alternators to supply the power needed to run amplifiers in the kilowatt range.

Now as for the sanity of keying up a transmitter and being in close proximity to the antennas as they shed thousands of watts into the air... well?

I have run without a c several times.
Was I happy, no but needed to finish the run and not lose the run. Plus I own the trk..
Have worked for a guy years ago. A c went out while in Laredo. Boss says when it gets home it gets fixed.. this was in August and I was driving a 4070 transtar.. Oh and I had a bad hangover from partying in Mexico for 2 days

BTDT, went most of last summer with no a/c and no apu either. Black truck running through the worst of the Pacific NW heatwave and across Mohave 4 times. Even into Florida twice. It sucked but after the 3rd new compressor failed less than 5 miles from the dealer I was done throwing away money.

It depends how the unit is wired.

I had an AC unit go out and a friendly mechanic showed me an inline fuse in the side compartment that if removed allowed the APU to run while driving.
