Can you solve 8÷2(2+2)?

Lets just deal with the part that mess up everyone... 2(2+2)... The 2 outside multiplies into BOTH 2s inside the parentheses, if I remember correctly (its been a long time) this is called extrapolating??... So it can be rewritten as ((2×2)+(2×2))... Or (4+4)

 

Run the equation through Javascript, VB, C, C++, gcalccmd in Linux...

16 will always be the answer

 

I'll bet a years wages that if you go to a mathematics professor at any college they will tell you the answer is 1

Good story about math.

I am phenomenal with basic math in my head for what a Tard I am. Even large multiplication and division. Barey finished high school.


My ex is Super Smart and should have gone off to college back in the 80s when we were kids.

Anyways about 6 years ago she applies at a high end Insurance agency after doing krap retail for pennies after her long career as a real estate appraiser evaporated after the big crash

So they give this online aptitude test after 3 interviews and she starts it over at my dads house one night thinking it will be a 30 minute deal.

Nope it is Involved. Than at the end there were 3 trig questions.

Well took some in high school but that was30 years ago.

My dad says call your brother who I hadn’t seen or spoke with for years.

Turns out he teaches mathematics at the college being he is a part time Professor.

Something I did not know. Thought all he did was own massive amounts of commercial real-estate and step in piles of krap that turned to gold.


Well he walked her through all the problems that night on the phone and she completed the test in the time allotted.

At her hiring they were just Blown away that she aced everything especially the Trig questions .

She knew what she was doing just needed to be reminded .

Order of operations take precedence.

8/2 = 4

4 x 4 = 16

 

There for 8÷8=???

The equation from the op CANNOT simply be worked left to right... You have to follow the order of operations I outlined in a previous post.

In that instance 2(4) is still goimg to fall under parentheses in the order of operations.

So it would come to 8÷8=
